Insomnia after fatigue

I have been fighting some insomnia at night recently. I will be so tired and ready for bed but once in bed I will either fall asleep and wake up wide awake a couple hours later or will be staring at the ceiling trying to count those damn sheep! When I do eventually fall asleep, I will wake up completely exhausted and have to force myself to get out of bed. Does anyone else experience this? Advice would be appreciated 😊

This happens to me every now & then. I can’t blame it on pbc. My mind doesn’t stop & when I have too many thoughts I can’t sleep.

I listen to meditation things on youtube to help me sleep. Also exercise during the day makes me more relaxed at night.

Hope you can get some 😴😴😴

Yes my Doctor said it’s due to work/Family life. I was able to have a great sleep last night after following some tips he provided me.

Sure

1. Now matter how exhausted you are DO NOT go to bed early. Force yourself to stay awake till 10:00 or 10:30

2. Don’t go to bed and look at phone or TV, no stimulation while in bed.

3. Do not eat before bed and drink less in the evening to avoid frequent washroom trips.

4. Exercise regularly

5. Take over the counter sleeping meds if needed

6. If you wake up in the middle of the night do not look at your phone or watch TV. Just lay there in the dark and you should fall back asleep.

I’m wondering what stage your pbc is, when I was at stage 4 for some time I developed what they called Sleep Reversel. It’s when the liver is unable to produce meletonine the sleep hormone. In my case I was really wide awake at night after a couple of hours sleep and then suddenly wide awake. All I could do was nap when I got the chance in the day. Unless you have this every night it is probably something else. I’d suggest you ask your consultant. I hope for you your sleep returns to normal. Best wishes

Hi bobbycat, I had a transplant in 2010, I have just been told pbc has returned on 3 May this year. I was mortified. It apparently returns in approximately 30% of patients. I do wish you well and I hope you have good care and support. It’s a roller coaster journey but worth it.

I am at the very beginning stage. My Doctor gave me some tips and I slept great last night. Thankfully

Yes I had that too....not sleeping well. I was told a sympton of PBC...I am at stage 4 with cirhossis now and sometimes I sleep well, other nights not at all! If possible try to take a half hour nap in afternoon....it helps me a lot.

That's me! Now taking a cortisol inhibitor, St. John's wort, and a homeopathic tincture called calmgen just before bed. Then 100 deep breaths, in through nose, out through mouth. Usually sleep okay after that ;)

Sure does sound like me. I wonder if it's another side effect of PBC? I never considered that and never heard it mentioned. My PCP Dr thinks it's sleep apnea

Yap. I wake up in the middle of the night. Try to nap then my mind gets busy. I have ptsd. Which my counselor told me brings on alot of auto immune. Found that very intresting looking into that. Have a Blessed week everyone.

Poor sleep is problem for millions of people. It maybe related to PBC, but, it could be completely unrelated. Just to rule out, you may want to check if you have a sleep apnea. This could make you wake up during night and feel very tired in the morning. Even mild sleep apnea could have that effect.

That is my life. I sleep well about one out of five nights, due to overwhelming cumulative exhaustion.

I have the same, its as if I have fallen asleep for 30 mins then up till 3 in morning. Hard to function during the day.
