Back from the Mayo Clinic

As an update to my previous post, I just got back from the Mayo Clinic and they said I have inconclusive PBC. I guess it’s so early or it’s inactive that they can’t definitely tell from the biopsy. I have to get another MRI scan to rule out PSC because I guess the last one was poor quality. Now I’m hoping for PBC because PSC is much worse! Also, it turns out I have Osteopenia because of the supposed PBC. So now I’m on Vitamin D and Calcium. I’ve seen some posts recently about alcohol and the doctors I’ve talked to said drinking in moderation is fine (just don’t become and alcoholic and have weekly benders). Perhaps it has to do with the stage and current condition of the liver. I am so grateful for the doctors at Mayo Clinic. It was a great experience and it was nice to meet multiple specialists and get scans and testing done on a quick turnaround.

Which clinic did you go to? I go to Jacksonville

Rochester, MN. My sister goes to that one for her liver issues, so it’s easier to treat us as a paired case study. Florida sounds nicer this time of year than Minnesota :)

When I was prescribed Calcium and Vitamin D I was not informed that also taking Vitamin K-2 w/MK7 will direct the Calcium to your bones and not to your arteries. Four years later the heart doctor said my arteries are like concrete! How was I to know?

Thanks for the info! I’ll make sure to check in with the doctor on those other vitamins. What is MK7?

from Dr. Mercola website: Studies overwhelmingly confirm that the MK-7 form of vitamin K2 provides the optimal vitamin K status in your body to activate the vitamin K-dependent protein MGP – the anti-arterial calcification protein.

Google Dr.Mercola.com and read the whole article on Vitamin K2.

I forgot to mention that if you are taking any blood thinners such as Coumadin, do not take vitamin K2 as it is also a blood thinner.

What were your symptoms to start with ? What medicines are you taking now? Do you mind sharing your liver function test results. I want to compare the diagnosis of specialist at Mayo and other specialists. I have PbC for past eight years now and I was wondering if I should get myself checked again in Mayo.
