AIH/PBC over lap sindrome

Just went to see the hepatoligist and said I have AIH and PBC overlap síndrome. And she prescribe me prednisone and azathioprina. I am scared of the side effects of this drugs. Is any one else on this. Or is there a different foundation for this. Please help. I feel scared again.

I have both. At first the AZA made me sick. I did get over it. Prednisone is a blessing and a curse. Urso doesn’t affect me. I gained weight and have the puffiness. I’m down to 10 mgs of prednisone. I started at 40 mgs. I thought that my prednisone would be lowered my last visit at the Mayo. My enzymes are fine. All back to normal but I will be at 10 mgs until August 2018. My next apt is 6 months from now.

I went through it and survived. I hated it, (side effects) but like the doctor said, it saved my life! I was gradually weaned off the Prednisone and Azathioprine, but when it came to going off the AZA my LFTs went right back up. Way up! Most people can go off both drugs by 24-36 months. Before my liver doctor retired in September, we both agreed I would need to take maintenance 50 mg. AZA for the rest of my life. I've always said, I don't fear PBC like I do Autoimmune Hepatitis. I should have mentioned that I was very concerned that my doctor knew what he was doing as AIH is so rare and Prednisone is a very powerful drug. Also, AZA is an autoimmune suppressant drug which scared me. My research showed I was receiving as good a care as if I were at Mayo Clinic. Evidently, he did his research too!

Do try to watch your diet and stay away from sugars and fattening foods. I didn't know to do that and I had never had a weight problem in my life.
