Yesterday I had my first appointment with a liver consultant who went above and beyond explaining my diagnosis, (picked up from a blood test due to another condition).

Apparently I am at the very early stage in the condition and having had a second set of bloods taken and an appointment for six months time to see if my levels have changed the consultant was very upbeat.

So for the time being I looking to improve my diet and hopefully lose some weight as this can only help the situation.

My question to the members here would be :- Is there a specific diet to follow or is it everything in moderation?

Thanks in advance

Hi Alison

I think this is one example of when it's helpful to Google. There are many sites that will give you lists of liver friendly foods or what to avoid. But generally I would go with moderation in everything.

I don't know if I'm actually right, but so far I try to keep to a diet that I includes fresh fruit and vegetables, not too much red meat, oily fish for omega 3. I also try to keep to a low fat diet where I can, avoid too much sugar and additives and stick to fresh rather than processed foods. All in all, a healthy diet. I also take a vitamin d tablet to help with calcium uptake but otherwise nothing special.

I've only been diagnosed for a year so I'm pretty new still. This forum is really helpful. Good luck!!c

You hit the nail on the head AngelaBarronn. That's how I try to eat. Plus my heptologist told me to keep your sodium intake under 2000mg daily. I do go over a little some days. Use in moderation as with everything, is what his nurse always tells me.

Hey! I've been doagnosed just over a year and also very early stages. My consultant told me to go away and love a normal life. He said eat healthily but that's not different to what he would tell every person disease or not. Also said could drink as long as don't do over weekly recommendation. I do eat healthy and do have a drink occasionally. I believe just a case of looking aft yourself once you have come to terms with it. Having said that I have a blood test Friday and I always get anxious over the result so maybe eating leaves for next day or so!!!

Low fat watch the sugar plenty of protein, & veg. Watch the fruit it has lots of sugar in my health professionals limit me to three small portions a day. Cut out processed foods & cook from scratch. Xx

Hi Alison - welcome to the PBC club. I try to eat sensibly with plenty of fruit and veg, fish and white meat and not much fat and alcohol only on special occasions. Half a lemon squeezed into warm water always makes me feel better. So listen to your body and you won't go far wrong. Keep in touch. ☺
