Hi all,Hope someone can help with a little advice.over the past week, I have been poorly with a urine infection, doctor gave me antibiotics, a 3 day course no joy, went back with a sample and had blood and protein in urine, so another course of antibiotics and 2 days in still no improvement, I feel worse, usually as all woman know things usually improve right away, as I have Pbc do yous think it takes longer with these infections or could it be something else would appreciate your thoughts. 😷😷.
Pbc/urine infection. : Hi all,Hope someone... - PBC Foundation
Pbc/urine infection.
PBC should not cause you to have no response to antibiotics.
I would call the doctor and ask them if there is anything else you can do? Perhaps you need a different kind of antibiotic? Normally you should start to feel better 24 hours after starting antibiotics, at least, that's what I've always been told.
Hi
I echo the thoughts of chynablue. I would add drink lots of water to flush infection. Even if this means constantly trotting to the loo. Have vitamin c rich foods and drink. I think cranberry juice has been mentioned as being good for uti. Give up all caffeine, carbonated or sweet drinks until infection gone. Again to echo Chynablue's thoughts maybe you need a different antibiotic. Back to the doctor this week if no improvement
Oddly in the back of my mind I remember being told to wear loose clothing not sure if that was to allow air to circulate or make it easier when flushing out the infection.
Hope u soon feel better.
Best wishes
You should feel better within 24 hours and it's a concern that you are saying you don't feel better you feel worse.
Do you have a temperature?fever?chills?nausea?vomiting?diarrhoea?pain worse?
You need to see a Dr they will assess you and either change the antibiotics and/or take bloods.
You might have a kidney infection and there is a risk of sepsis.
I have just recovered from same ended up in hospital for one week on iv fluids and antibiotics.
Please see doc ASAP
Good luck
Be careful if you are not not passing as much urine as you normally would do you are retaining it and your kidneys will dehydrate go straight to A&E. You may go on a iv drip for 24 hrs but you will feel a lot different
Hi definitely go back to your GP. I have recently had similar experience - several infections over three or four months. Maybe ask to see a urologist. Mine was not passing all urine so this caused recurrent infection in bladder. I had a scan followed by a cystoscopy. I won't bore you with my ongoing ... but definitely pursue it. Also a three day course of antibiotic may not be enough. Good luck it's horrid I know.
I had the same 4 weeks ago. It ended up as a kidney infection. Antibiotics didn't work until the last day of a week's course. Terrified of getting it again as I was in bed for 2 days with fever and chills. I was told most women get these problems after menopause
In my experience, drinking water and rest are the best treatment for UTIs. Beware consumption of heavily acidic substances such as Vitamin C and Cranberry juice, particularly if you have any history of kidney stones since they can lead to the formation of acidic stones which may be a factor in the UTI. Anti-biotics take varying amounts of time to be effective, I recently had a UTI and was prescribed a 7-day course of Co-Amoxiclav – it was only by day 10 that I started to feel substantially better.
I take antibiotics daily they seem to keep bacteria under control and help fight off infections too
I have always been told that it takes 4 days for antibiotics to start to work, when I have a urine infection I started to have one glass of cranberry juice each morning and it cleared up with one course of antibiotics but my GP said in the first place that a second course may be needed but in my case wasn't
Make sure you do all the above things esp drinking lots of water and cranberry juice. Absolutely no tub baths. Shower only and that goes double for anyone who has frequent UTI's. If female after sexual intercourse always make sure to urinate.
If you are on your second round of antibiotics and they are not working then your doctor should have sent a urine culture. This will be able to identify the bacteria causing the infection and tell the doctor what antibiotic will clear it up. It usually takes 24-48 hours to culture the urine. Once you find out what is the most effective antibiotic then you may have to take it for seven instead of ten days.
I meant to say seven instead of three days.
