I am reading this days about the possible triggers for Ama activation which in time enables also Pbc.
i was very curious about the Ama trigger and i found that a very big procentage of pbc members have gastrite (mild/ medium/severe) and many have also h Pylori infection. The studies conclude that H pilory can trigger Ama reaction.
Did any of you have /had gatrite or H pylori infection?
thank u

Yes, I was diagnosed with H Pylori about 20 years before PBC diagnosis and treated with antibiotics. I also had CMV about 2 years before PBC diagnosis and my specialist suspects that was the trigger.
Yes, I have had H Pylori more than 20 years ago. I had a rough time with the medical treatment, 3 antibiotics at the same time, it started a life of “medications allergies” . My PBC was detected in 2017.
Hi, while being investigated for cause of raised lft and abdo pain, I had a positive H-pylori test, had the triple therapy. Which didn't clear it, so had 2nd lot of treatment.
I had assumed my PBC was triggered by the gallstone pancreatitis infection I had in 2000 weeks after having my first son. But maybe it was the h pylori. Interesting post!
Hi , yes i have had h Pylori infection and had to take 3 different types of Antibiotics for two weeks to clear it . However i have read that H pylori infection is quite common especially in 3rd world countries affecting male and female, but it appears most if not all PBC suffers are female.
No, I’ve never been diagnosed with H Pylori and no gastric issues. I am one of the rare AMA negative PBC’ers. Also since PBC is a mostly female condition, I’m curious how would H Pylori differentiate and affect only a majority of females?
Yes I had H pylori and took a 16 day treatment pack of meds and it cleared it up. That was 16 years ago and I was diagnosed 1 and one half years ago. What was the age spread in the study you were reading?
Hi, I had an endoscopy recently to look for varices. Thankfully no varices but yes, gastritis. I wasn’t tested doe H Pylori. When I see my consultant in Oct I will ask about that. Xxxx
hello to all. From the study i extracted the info about the link with stomach infections as a trigger for ama antigen and pbc.
The theory is that H pylori infection trigger the imune reaction and it create the reponse of the imune system. The problem is that those infections are chronic and i think that if we can resolve the trigger we can stop the progresion.I have h pylory for many years and it comes back after treatment.I also think that Ama in some cases is positive because the trigger(the infection) is not cured 100%.Our imune system tries to get rid of the infection but we have colateral damages as liver small duct destruction.I think.....Maybe other approches from any of the group members?
No I didn't but I had Celiac disease recently diagnosed as an adult, though I'm sure I had it for years and didn't realize it. I also had Lyme disease for years that didn't go away until I had IV antibiotics daily for 6 weeks. I feel like that may have been the trigger, as I never felt the same afterward.
While being recently tested for lung issues , the specialist said I have an ongoing infection of some type ....not known at this point But I had a very bad virus 4years ago that left me short of breath sometimes.....I have always felt there was a link
Yes I have had h pylori too.Other suggested triggers that I can relate to are gall bladder infection and exposure to toxic chemicals (although this was while working to recommendations). Don't suppose they'll find a definitive cause. I think maybe a combination of these and genetics are the cause. Just my thoughts.
