Hello Poppygayle.

You may have thought of it yourself but you're not taking any other meds of recent are you. That can cause a change in urine colour.

I don't have any pain in the liver area.

Hi peridot no change in meds thanks for the response .x

When I was in the liver ward I asked about yellow ursine and was told it was probably because I was dehydrated. Try drinking a little more water to see if it makes any difference as it certainly worked for me.

Hi poppygayle,

I also noticed this myself, this has been going on for a few months now, normally it is quite clear as I drinks lots of water every day. I don't get any liver pain. Also for myself the past few months my periods have changed and I have high cholesterol. I am not sure if any of this is linked to PBC but it is worrying me a little. My doctors are not linking it to PBC, however I don't have a lot of confidence in them as they know very little about the condition.

Hey high cholesterol is linked to pbc... I eat really healthily... And mine is very high. Liver specialist put me on finofibrates (probably spelt wrong). I also have extremely dark coloured wee in the morning which lightens through the day with water consumption .. Could it be the by product of urso.. I don't know

Hello Fudger126.

I am not convinced that changes in periods is due to PBC, more a change in hormone levels. I started what I found out was known as perimenopause last year. My periods have started to lengthen when I start as I was always the sort of 28 days cycle that has been prior to having 2 children and continued as so afterwards. I have been finding that alternate months in the last 18mths I've had 38 days cycle and then 28 days. I'm still roughly the same as I have always been, first few days heavy then tapering off light for the next 5 days. I've never been with symtons prior to the cycle except feeling the breast tenderness from having children, slight tummy bloating and dull ache bottom of the back. I also find my patience seems to wane slightly and just prior I get what I call dropsy, I am so clumsy and drop things over a few days.

I am 50 next year by the way and apparently it's supposed to be around that age when women hit menopause so I'm sort of text book there I'd say.

As with anything if you become worried about that part of you and don't feel it is a normal progression then it is wise to seek advice from a medic.

Hi peridot,

My cycle is always 28 days and my period just last 3 days. However for 2 months it lasted for 1 day only. I went to the doctors and they did lots of test checking for wombe cancer and overy cancer. I had a ultrasound and thank god all was clear. My last period was different again this lasted for 6 days! I have never had a period to last that long. I just wasn't sure if the changes could be linked to PBC.

Thank you for your reply x

Hi this a strange topic but I noticed my wee goes a bright greenish colour after taking the ursofalk tablets. I now take all 3 in the morning after breakfast. My wee gets lighter and clearer throughout the day because I drink a lot of water. So, it could be the ursofalk.

My husband once came home from work many years ago and said that one of his co-workers was telling everyone that he was weeing and it was red. He then said he was taking some tablets from the doctor and one of the side-effects was that urine could become red.

I'm not into vitamin tablets but my son bought some not so long ago and they are blue (and a well-known brand) which put me quite off. I did take one and many hours later unusually I noticed that my urine was slightly different to what it normally was. I put it down to the vitamin tablets as certain vitamins simply excrete the body via the urine if not needed.

I've only ever had white urso tablets (originally was on Urdox 600mgs daily and was switched 2 months ago to Ursogal due to a tablet recall), so there'd probably be no difference there due to them not having any colouring in them. I know that you can get Ursogal in capsule form and they do have a colouring in them, quinoline I think it is offhand.

Since starting URSO my urine is dark yellow in the mornings but gets lighter as the day goes on.

Apparently urine is supposed to be dark early morning and then as we start eating and drinking, it goes light to quite colourless.

I know in PBC urine can become dark and faeces light.

I always had quite clear urine morning time included but with the introduction of Urso it is dark yellow in the mornings, I take all of my urso prescription at approx 6 pm.
