It’s animal protein that that needs most help to be broken down when one has low stomach acid . .

We have various enzymes in our saliva that start off the breaking down process . Chewing well also helps . So I feel that non protein snacks will be broken down by chewing well, — without cider vinegar .

. You might find the tablet form of Apple cider vinegar useful when you are eating out .

Wonderful treat for our gastric health is home made kefir ( better than commercial kefir which is not made in the traditional thousand year old method , using so-called “grains “) Do read all about it on the internet.

Best wishes .

Agree about the kefir Wedgewood. I have been making it from grains since the summer and it’s improved my digestive health no end.

I think the effect of kefir on the gut might well play a part in improving b12 absorption. As one of the people here without a specific diagnosis for my deficiency I am convinced that malabsorption in many cases has its roots in the effects of the industrialised food we are exposed to.

I only take the ACV before a big meal, ie not before snacks. I have also learned to chew all my food properly rather than swallowing it quaickly. And I take Water Kefir that also helps stomach with problems.

I take a Betain HCL capsule only before main meals. I do sip lemon squash with no added sugar all the time & that does the job.

I only take the Betaine HCL with meals. One with lunch and two with my evening meal, which tends to be larger, whereas lunch is much lighter. But that is following a recommendation from my nutritionist.

I find that if I don’t snack between meals, that helps with my digestion in addition to a probiotic once a day and a betaine HCL supplement with large meals only.
