B12 assay in The Royal? Wow. In Scarborough. [aka Scarbados]. Must've missed that [originally]. I wonder where the lab was? We did have B12 assays in those days, but they were microbiological, suited for small batches, and very labour intensive. The classic, and more of a challenge, was based on Euglena Gracilis, as it needed light to photosynthesize. The Lactobacillus Leichmannii method was much easier, but still quite a challenge. One or two people, working two days, could do around 100-150 tests, read the results off a calibration curve, and report the results. I dread to think. Now, fully automated, it takes around 30 minutes for the first result.
