Just wanted to pick brains,,, daughter still not well managed to get last B12 jab little earlier now they have agreed to 8 weekly. She was also vit D def, px 400x2 daily for 4 months and folic acid 5mg daily also 4 months. recently had bloods but as yet not been able to get printout, they are being A*** holes. Just picked up a new supply and they have given her caps again, she hates them, says they make her feel ill, give her stomach aches pains. First time they were the little pearl things, smaller and they don't make her feel ill, second time capsules, then pearls , now this capsules that look even bigger.

Does anyone else have issues with different types , are some more effective?

I found that the ones that the Doc gave me upset my stomach (they were green coloured gels, 4000 iu) I bought some 1000 iu gels online once I'd finished the G.P ones and they have been fine, no upset tummy. My vitamin D level is now high in normal range, so they are obviously doing the trick.

the soft gel/pearls that she has had she was ok with, but the capsules seem to really upset her, was wondering if it is due to additives etc Nackapan might have to try and revisit that did give her it once she hated it made her gag. The folic acid they px doesn't seem the best either. Going to try again to get results printed out, if I go missing I'll probably be locked up

It doesn't matter which.

The important things to remember with vit D3 are that it needs to be taken with FAT, so best with a meal, that you can overdose on it, and that vit K2 - also with fat - is needed for calcium control.

I just wondered if there was something in the different forms supplied that might be adding to her nausea/vomiting. The GP has just px ,Vit D and folic acid, don't know if they will px K2, but of course they don't really have a Scooby about it all.

Yes, of course. Different manufacturers use various fillers and binders in their products. The actual vitamin is measured in micrograms, about a thousanth, or less, of the total weight. Talc, stearates, even mannitol, sorbitol, etc.. Any of these could cause a reaction. Personally I avoid additives as much as possible but with such microscopic amounts of active ingredients it's an impossible task. I do react to sweeteners like sorbitol, sorbates, and the like. You find these in confectionery and bakery products, especially Mr. Kipling cakes, so if you find you get an upset stomach, for example, it might be worth checking all food and medicines for additives. Lactose, in milk products, is another one to think about.

I have been prescribed v d only need to take 1 a month, I'm finding these very good

Hi there, I have similar issues with taking Vit D3 orally, so have been using D3 patches instead (I started with 1 a day, and then down to twice a week now as I've started to feel better) - I had my bloods done and my gastroenterologist was fairly happy that my levels were good (after being deficient for ages). I get them from Amazon, though I think a bit cheaper on eBay: amazon.co.uk/SpoilMeWith-He...

Hope this helps.

Hi Polo22. I have PA and long Covid. For Folate I’ve been using nutri advanced B12+Folate+Intrinsic Factor (so it says, which at least sounds consoling). I inject .5 B12 every day still. Seems to work for me re, slowly improving energy levels.

Every now and then I take B complex in one pill.

Also use powdered Vit D from Dr Myhill once a week with K2 MK-7.

And Vit c

Wishing you improvement soon.

I've only ever bought my own soft gel capsules without fillers etc and have never had any issues. Much better quality than anything on prescription.

My vit D level was 141.9 in October, after being deficient on and off for years, so working nicely now.

I can recommend anything from Health Leads or 5 Greens. British Supplements are good too but they're higher doses.
