Folate levels

Hi I recently started SI twice a day thanks to the advice of the wonderful people here

I recently had surgery and this seems to have thrown my B12 levels out of wack.

My twitching has been moderate the past week which I put down to the extra B12 although I hoped it would settle down.Having the odd heart palpitation too.

My recent folate levels were:

Serum vitamin B12 level > 2000 ng/L [187.0 - 883.0]; Above high reference limit

Serum folate level 9.2 ug/L [3.1 - 20.5]

I take a Ignennus Super B complex a day and a Mennsana sublingual B12 I get from Versandepo.

Do my folate levels look ok or should I be taking more folate if I am having more SI B12?

I had a lovely chat with a well known gp who advised me keep your folate in double figures but always under 20. I’ve not yet followed that advice it goes up and down like a yo-yo so I’m going to try a higher dosage for three months retest then reduce and retest to try see how it reacts.it’s around 7 just now which is too low for me so I’m happy to have his advice to follow. Did he give a reason for below 20? Mine has always been above range (20), even without supplements, yet the medics don't appear to be bothered by that at all. My high B12 levels after supplementing are of course, great cause for concern! 🤷‍♀️

No no reason I think he was just trying to keep me optimal but still within range..Yes my b12 is also over 2000 I S.I twice weekly now.

It looks OK to me although there is room for more.

What are your iron, magnesium and potassium levels like?

These minerals are all needed in B12 processes and can easily become low, especially on a higher injection rate.

They all contribute to nerve and muscle function so are often needed to reduce muscle problems/spasms/twitching.

Low iron can cause "restless leg syndrome".

Because your heart is a big muscle it is prone to being affected by mineral, and vitamin, issues.

It's worth getting your calcium levels checked too as this can affect heart function more obviously than other muscles.

While vitamin C isn't so directly linked, it does have a significant effect on our vascular system so it's good to make sure you have plenty.

And finally vitamin D - a deficiency can cause all the same sort of issues as B12d and will also stop your vitamin B12 from working optimally. If supplementing, it's best to take it as D3 + K2, unless you are on anticoagulants.

I hope you find out what's wrong soon and can quickly resolve it. I hope you recover from your surgery well too.

How do you find the Igennus b complex? I have recently started taking them.
