One small study from ~2015 of B12 πs showed the benefits reported in those with CFS/ME & FM varied with:
a) form of B12, . . . - methyl- form better than hydroxo-,
b) frequency - those having more frequent πs did/felt better, . . . &
c) dose - 5mg methyl better than 1mg hydroxo . . .
Seems like a clear enough trend, . . . in spite of quite small numbers !
Q: anyone on here have experience of the 5mg methylcobalamin ampoules for injection? Shall appreciate any pointers for availability, . . . by PM as appropriate! π
I think this is a bit misleading - did they compare 5mg hydroxy versus 1mg? I think it would be easier just to inject hydroxy more often and see how that goes first. E.g if you are doing daily, go to twice daily. If already twice daily, add in a 3rd, etc.
I am not aware of 5mg methyl ampoules. Oxford Bio sells methyl powder that you have mix up yourself with special sterile saline - each 1ml would give you 4mg oxfordbiosciences.com/store... but do be careful it.
Hi Jade_s I tried the Oxford methyl and mixed myself from the powder β¦. I did like it I have to say but thought compared to hydroxy from apohealth found it to be costly β¦. So had to return to previous ampules β¦ thanks - Iβd recommend it though
I think they key thing to remember is that we are all different. I would suggest experimenting in a methodical way, like WIZARD6787 does. Change, document, change document. No study can tell us what's best for us, but it can give hints on what to try
This was an observational study (no intervention) so I think its limited in what it can show ; only correlations would be possible and that only if confounding was fully accounted for.
There were many differences between the treatments used by the good responders and mild responders so there is a lot of possible "confounding factors". It seems to make sense that more B12 would be more effective than less but the study didnt compare like with like and there was obviously no control group so its very hard to say whether a group that did everything the good responders did, but injected 5mg Hydroxocobalamin, instead of 1mg, would have seen similar improvement.
Interesting paper but it certainly doesnt tell us that methylcobalamin is more effective than hydroxocobalamin and there are so many confounders in terms of different folic acid doses etc etc, thats it very hard to pick out any individual treatment from this to say its better or worse.
Yes it's the same as the oxford bio - I think it might even be shipped direcly from them... and getting it directly from them is much cheaper than than your link, if my math is correct
. . . yes, I think your maths is correct, . . . unless any ONE of the proofs establishing '0 = 1' is in fact tenable. Those 'proofs' easily found with a search. And, if ONE of those is correct, . . . we've all been ROYALLY deceived. π. . . π π π . . .
. . . thanks for the pointer; looks like a good deal of considered views on there, via the resources !
A good Day's work - not much more cost than for the hydroxo ampoules, . . . mg for mg ! Great ! π

Liked it a lot but was expensive for me (Β£36.00 inclusive of postage for 20ml) needed to use too frequently so returned to apohealthβs and versando app b12 from Germany. Would recommend for use definately
I have been investigating B12 and folate injections in combination talking to a company currently. I think this will be methyl cobalamin and active folate.
. . . thanks, & pleased to hear you feel an effect with the patches. π
Many, including me, don't, . . . or didn't. Tried a few brands too. This might hv to do with the degree of 'functional deficiency' on some level, . . . rather than the simplistic ( - & incorrect!) assessment by the B12 serum test. Biology 'is' complex, . . . it might be said . . . ! πβπβ
Trying the above methyl B12 from Oxford Biosciences - & daily, for at least 60 days, . . . may well be the next most sensible option, . . . in one particular case!

Unless its a nanofiber patch ( which haven't reached the market yet as far as I know), as described in: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/366...
then a B12 patch would have no effect beyond placebo. There is no known physiological mechanism other than the not yet fully tested/commercialized technology above, that would allow the B12 to cross the skin into the body/bloodstream.
If you want usable B12 in your system, you would be wasting your money with patches.
. . . this would suggest we are surrounded by many 'easily pleased' . . . erm, . . . ?'gullible ninnies' then ??! πβ . . . π βπ₯β. . . π π π€£ β Or, . . . πβββ
Was forever thus, . . . suggests the long history of scientific progress thru' failures . . . !!βπ π
Good 'to be' . . . one of the less susceptible - tho' had better not feel too complacent about it! 'A fall' may be preceded . . . by 'a haughty spirit' . . . it's been suggested!
. . . & so, . . . a more promising-seeming avenue to pursue still, . . . ??! π

B12 deficiency, PA, and their diagnosis and treatment are very poorly understood by most medical professionals. Since true B12 specialists are rare and difficult to access for most people, many people turn to alternative medicine practices or become willing to try less tested approaches, treatments or supplements which may or may not have benefit.
I think we all want to get better any way we can and many feel its best not to close off any option, no matter how unlikely. I can understand this because, although I try to be guided by evidence, I tried many things myself which did not have the best evidence backing them up, but when you're up against the wall, all options go on the table.
So I wouldnt call someone a gullible ninny for trying something with poor to no evidence because I know that desperation to feel better which can prompt you to try things that you otherwise would not, "just in case" there's something to it.
Hi Sid, if you are still interested in trying methyl , you can order both 1mg and 5mg strength ampoules from Arnika Apotheke in Munich, Germany. I just emailed with them this week. Prices are about 4 to 5 times that of 1mg hydroxo ampoules. They come in boxes of 10 ampoules.
Email address for prices , and to order :
manufaktur@arnika-apo.de
Phone From U.K. +49 89 452 468 468. They speak English
Thanks Jade - especially as I'm familiar with the ampoules already. π
Had a further ponder about the Oxford Biosciences methyl- powder, which requires sterile saline for π - a 'prescription only' item in the UK, it seems ( - altho' available from the EU online pharmacies & elsewhere too! ).
Came across something about Oxford Biosciences had changed its supplier for the methylcobalamin powder in recent years; haven't yet contacted them. Know anymore about this?
Take care,
