In a nutshell, gut issues mean if I eat more than once a day I get IBS symptoms, starts with severe groin cramps, then bloating, then diarrhoea etc. Been like this for over a year now.
I cope by drinking kefir all day then a meal after 6 pm when I can eat ANYTHING without any problems at all as long as I stop eating around 10 pm.
It’s not WHAT I eat but HOW OFTEN I eat.
I am coming to conclusion it’s low stomach acid but in terms of finding a solution to restore normal eating pattern no luck at all. Tried Betaine and Pepsin but doesn’t seem to make much difference but then I was rather half hearted with it as unsure if it could make things worse.
I seem to be constantly tired so upped my B12 injections to twice a day but I think the B12 recovery is being hindered by not enough regular food.
I came across JUVIA in my research and wondered if anyone had any experience with it? I have emailed the company directly and I will share any response.
thanks in advance as always

I also have the gut issues and at present after waiting a year and a half i'm being investigated by a gastrologist. I am now awaiting both a MRI and an ultra sound scan but no date as yet as to when this will be carried out.
My gut issues are a little more complicated ( hernia's, IBS and diverticula disease ), but just like you I also suspect low gut acid. My Gp put me on Lansoprazole to 'supposedly' protect my gut from certain medication prescribed me. 🤔 I now have errosive gastritis !
I cant say I have heard of Juvia but would be interest to see if it helps. Albeit expensive I found Symprove helped me with the bloating and give me a little relief as I were feeling very nauseous on awaking.
I hope you find the Juvia of help and manage to get some sort of respite.
Sorry to hear your suffering too. I was referred to a gastro last October. Still not got a firm date but I have a telephone appointment yet to be confirmed.
I have another telephone appointment with a NHS dietician later this month.
I am resisting any invasive investigations until SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth) and H. Pylori ruled out which is a battle in itself as the majority of treatable IBS I understand are due to bacteria.
I have not tried JUVIA yet, it warns that for people with autoimmune diseases to start at 1/3rd dose and to stay at that dose and that symptoms will get worse before they get better (sound familiar?).
I think I will wait until after my consultation with the dietician.
Unlike where your finding it dificult with meals I am the opposite and feel hungry all the time ! The nausea tends to go after I have eaten. I was booked in for a sibo screen but sod's law I couldn't attend due to suffering heart failure.
Everything is soooooo looong winded with regard to the NHS . 😡
I wound be hungry all the time if not for the kefir. But I am hungry but no appetite as such. I just eat now because I need to. I used to have a good appetite and ate well and enjoyed cooking. Now cooking is a chore and i don’t enjoy eating it - it’s an odd feeling.
I'm going to have to get my daughter to get me some kefr which I have to say I prefer to sauerkraut. 🤢 I also tried taking cider apple vinigar in the mornings.
I find plain kefir so soothing and easy to drink - not keen on the flavoured ones. I tried sauerkraut but it was defo "medicine" without a spoonful of sugar! Yes, I tried apple cider vinegar too but didn't address the key issues but probably did some good - again felt medicinal and hard to maintain long-term.
I got a Gastro telephone appointment within a week and had all my investigations done soon after, so you need to ask your doctor to fast track (2 week) you for that service under the circumstances. You shouldn't be left suffering all this time, food and eating is fundamental x
I have the same eating pattern as you but I do it on purpose. It is called intermittent fasting and I have never felt healthy. I have lost weight and feel much more energetic.
That's interesting. Do you do the intermittent fasting every day? Do you have any appetite when it is "tea time"? Are there any "consequences" if you break fast for example by joining in a social lunch, or eating a banana, or having coffee and cake with a friend?
I have not lost weight (but have lost fat/inches) but I feel tired and keep yawning.
I do it every day but I do 'cheat' on Fridays when we take my 90 year old MIL for tea and cakes. Every day I can't wait for eating time when I can start stuffing my face. I eat masses between 6 and 10 and still stay the same 8 stone 13 ( I am 5ft 6 inches), Mind you I am dairy and gluten free and, apart from Friday, don't eat any cakes, sweets etc. And I use my exercise bike twice a day and go on a long walk (5 miles) regularly.
I don’t look forward to eating and I generally don’t eat much more than usual. Once in a while I will and have cheese and biscuits - (whole packet of biscuits and block of cheese) because I am still hungry after tea. I don’t eat much in the way of sugar or cakes either but I am 5’4” and 11.5 stone and a size 12-14 but I do physical work daily looking after my sheep and birds and donkeys.
I am just tired and don’t know if it’s still B12 related or lack of nutrients.
You sound just like me. I really miss cheese and biscuits. I so am weak willed. Once I start eating something I like I can't stop. Which is why intermittent fasting suits me so well. I don't have to stop!!!
But I still get tired and need regular naps. I think all people with B12D never have the same energy level as 'normal' people.
Dr Michael Mosley's book, the clever guts diet, is worth investing in. He's done lots of research and been his own guinea pig and talks about intermittent fasting.
I definitely do not want to lose weight - never dieted in my life. I just want to be able to eat when I am hungry and have an appetite again. Thank you fingers crossed!
I had not heard of that! Someone mentioned iberogast on another thread i think, not sure if it's similar or not.. i bought a bottle a few years ago but never used it lol
My eating has been all over the place starting by losing 100 pounds/7.14 stone before staring injections.
It seems to be working itself out with better self treatment.
I see it as a neurological thing and do not expect to go back to my eating habits.
I found that a probiotic in the morning is helpful.
I have found that having fun when preparing food is helpful with the focus being simple. I am using my new seasoned cast iron frying pan to prepare scallops. Oil, salt and pepper. I am using a heat gun to get the right temperature of the frying pan and a food thermometer to bring the right internal temperature of the scallops. Remove from pan at 115 F and the temp will rise to 125 F. That is simple for me to do.
I found it most helpful to think in terms of hunger and not "food" and certainly not whatever the current fashion of nutrition is.
I experience hunger sometimes very quickly and intensely. I have things to eat available quickly. Otherwise I experience what I call going past a hunger and will not eat.
"I experience hunger sometimes very quickly and intensely. I have things to eat available quickly. Otherwise I experience what I call going past a hunger and will not eat."
SNAP!!! I think my blood sugar drops suddenly and I NEED food QUICKLY! This is a problem when my stomach goes into cramping overdrive as it's before the sun is over the yardarm! Hence, I drink kefir all day.
After a very quick glance at the Juvia website two things come to mind (maybe I've missed something - it was a very quick glance - will look again when I have the time).
1 Lot of money for a product containing simple ingredients.
2 Research mentioned is not done on this product but on gut health and bacteria
It’s so easy to keep trying new things and waste lots of money. So your observations are spot on.
I am hoping there may be someone out there in the wider market who may have experienced this product. Seems highly self acclaimed but as yet unable to find a genuine beneficiary!
I’m trialling it now as we speak. Only on day 2 so can’t report anything major at this point in time. Will update after a couple of weeks. The science behind it is interesting too. I also have EPI so digestion is doubly compromised for me so I really hope this works.
I’m now on the maintenance phase. I would say I’m 70 to 80% better with stomach issues and all over body pains which I’m pleased about so I intend to stick with it and hope to at least maintain where I have got to!
It took me the full size x weeks to be fair and as I say I’m 70% better. Of course it could be that your issue isn’t one Juvia enzymes can fix. But as I say I went to six weeks and on the maintenance phase now so will probably stick with it.
