Pink Blush after SI

Hi Guys

Does anyone know the reason for the pink blush on the skin a few days after an injection?

I know it’s from the B12 but does this suggest the B12 is injected too near the surface?

It’s not a problem on my tum as bikini days are long gone but in the thigh it’s more obvious if I were to go swimming (notice the IF !!)

Thank you in advance guys.

Hi Wwwdot

I’ve just recently been through a series of 6 B12 injections administered by the nurse at the GP surgery. I don’t remember seeing any pink marks only the stinging pain. Mine were given in the top of my arms where there’s more muscle so maybe try there.

Hi Jaycee

Yes by the nurse into the arm stings!! I think they inject too fast and the B12 is often a bit chilly too!

I don’t think you get the blush with inter-muscular injections which is what you describe, just sun-cutaneous which is what I do. I do not think I coujd cope with giving myself an IM injection - SC is only just doable!

It sounds like you have had loading doses so I wish you all the very best with your recover y journey and thank you for your info.

Thank you. I’m due a booster middle of September. It’s helped a lot. Got my appetite back but maybe too much. I’m concerned the weight I lost will come back and I’m really happy now.

Hi Jaycee

That’s good news and I wish my appetite would return. There is a lot to be said for enjoying our food. Never realised that before now. I am sure you will make good food choices with the odd treat!

Keep on the recovery!

Hi Jaycee

If possible don’t buy processed foods to put in your home if temptation is there chances are you will migrate to it, eat small portions of a healthy meal you enjoy and go for a walk after each meal.. 🌷

Thank you for your reply.

I’m trying to take more time with food preparation rather than just buying from a supermarket. I try to have one red meat a week and I also use my slow cooker more. Yesterday I did a massive vegetable chilli. Today off to a bbq but I’ve prepared homemade potato salad, rice salad and a mixed salad to take. 🤞

I get that at times with sc .Do you hold a roll of flesh?

Just takes a bit longer to get absorbed .

It helps me to go slowly and count to 10 before withdrawing the needle.

Then put a momentary pressure on injection site.

Some nurses are useless at IM injections.

One I had to totally avoid after 2 very painful ones leaving bad bruising..

Some I didbr realise were done until a deep transient throb.

Our surgery kept the b12 in a drawer usually drawn up before you in there.

New surgery new nurse.

So far good.

Hi Nackapan

Apologies for delay in replying to your kind response.

Yes I do pinch a roll of flesh which I gently ease off as I inject.

I also wait around 20 seconds after injecting before I remove the needle.

What your reply has made me realise I am inconsistent in doing is massaging the area of injection for 30 seconds afterwards. I tend only to do this if the injection was uncomfortable. Perhaps the vigorous massage is the key as it may help disperse the B12.

Another thing to try! Thank you.

I often get a pink blush with SC but not always, depends on the spot. Not sure why - thickness of the skin perhaps? I always SC tummy so no clue about the thigh. I use a 1/2" (13mm) so the longest possible for SC. 🤷‍♀️

I don't get it with IM.

Not "if" but "when", just a matter of time 😉😁

5/8 " can be used for sc if needed. Only s little longer .

Yes IM can give me bruises instead. !

It is caused by the B12 pooling under the skin after an SC injection. It isn't a problem and will be absorbed by the body in a day or two.

Thank you so much! Does that mean that I need to be injecting deeper (for SC) then please...? I can't seem to get it right! 😞

No, its fine. The body naturally absorbs it in a day or two.

Hello Wwwdot, I only have it with subcutaneous injections, but not every time.

When it does not appear I assume it is absorbed better maybe because of nearer blood vessels and/or injection in less used area.

When pink stain shows it's absorbed slowly and disappears in a few days.

Best wishes.
