Hi, can anyone tell me where I can buy B12 and the needles etc from please?

I get my b12 on prescription from my GP, everything else I get from Medisave.

Hi PenniI've had 6 loading shots and one shot 3 months later. Now GP not wanting to continue even though I've had a positive IFAB test. Will a GP prescribe B12 even if they say no to shots at the practice? TIA

I have a prescription of b1e to 8nj4ct at home.I buy the needles, syringes .

Whilst the surgery were debating doing this ,I also bought some .

This was at the start of lockdown.

To date continuing but not without it being challenged by several Gps and nurses .

I have an IM one at the surgery 6 weekly .

I do sc at home ( off licence) taking full responsibility when Gp rang deciding to prescribe against colleagues wishes .

She saw the progress and coujd find nothing else to treat and no other 2ay to treat.

Continuity !!

I was diagnosed in January 2010. My b12 injections were then stopped in August 2011. After 3 years of not having them I became so ill that I spent 5 weeks in hospital and have been left with permenent damage because of this. My gp and I have now come to an arrangement, they give me my b12 and I do them at home. Keep fighting

Omg that's terrible!! So your GP still won't give you shots at the surgery, even after being in hospital?

They did for a while but it takes about 2 hours with buses etc, it takes 2 minutes at home. During Covid, my surgery stopped all routine injections. Happy to do them at home.

as per the NICE guidelines you should be treated for life. Plus the loading doses should continue ‘until there is no further improvement’. Take the NICE guidelines to the surgery or quote them in an official letter. Unfortunately most GPs only allow a B12 injection once every eight weeks, max so we have to self inject in between GP jabs. But, your jabs should not stop.

My GP requested advice and guidance from Haematology, they responded by saying that my B12 result of 1504 caused a positive IFAB result. Therefore they are advising no further treatment. They are ignoring my first b12 result of 210 and my third result of 440 (after 6 loafing doses). I have also now read that IFAB can cause an elevated B12 reading, so the opposite to what Haematology have stated.I can't even get an appt with Haematology and my GP doesn't want to prescribe B12 injections because of what Haematology have said.

I have stated NICE guidelines to them in writing but this has made no difference.

My GP has requested another advice and guidance from Haematology but I'm not holding my breath for a different response from them.

I feel I'm fighting a losing battle.

Can the GP just decide to prescribe B12 due to me showing clinical improvement after having it? She seems to be being solely led by Haematology advice.

I would push your GP to continue treatment. It is so tough. And/or self inject like most of us do.

Yes . The G.p can prescribe on 'clinical response '

Also can prescribe in the patients best interests .

I struggled and like you have had letters ignored .

Wax prescribed initially by G.p.

After going through 6.

The partners opposed her .

Had to get advice from. Neurology .

I provided one letter from neurologist i saw .

Then 2 yests later after beng questioned so many times by interfering nurses .

A new partner contacted a 'random ' neurologist who had never met me.

Fortunately this one also advised Gp could prescribe .

I'm currently prescribed 2 weekly b12 injections .

I've no firm diagnosis .

Nothing else found to treat.

Only thing that ax helped me progress is b12 injections.

I do sc at home and IM at the surgery every 6 weeks

So far the new surgery ax other one closed is carrying on .

Seems the query from haematology is looking at high b12 levels rather than your symptoms.

Perhaos concentrate on evidence of high levels bring safe.

And your PA diagnosis .

Thank you so much, it gives me hope to keep fighting! My GP has referred me to Haematology for the third time and I also have a neurology referral too but no date as yet.

I will keep fighting although I think I will end up S I as doses 3 monthly won't be enough.

Haematology seem to have an excuse for everything, their reasons are- one high b12 result means I'm not deficient, my positive PA result is because the B12 was high, my second test was negative so i definitely don't have PA etc etc

I'll keep pressing on but if no joy I will SI. Jade sent me a leaflet she has compiled with all the relevant info on it which I'm so grateful for and I can't believe how cheap the B12 is, which makes me wonder why the GP's and specialists are so against prescribing it!!

It's because they can't make enough money from prescribing such an inexpensive drug (or vitamin). However, they'll be more than happy to put you on any of their deadly concoctions such as Metformin, Nexium, antidepressants, etc.

Agree, it makes no sense at all. Now at 2 months since my last injection, last time I fell off a cliff edge health wise at this point but gp won't give me a maintenance dose whilst she hears back from Haematology. Obviously happy to let me deteriorate whilst waiting and her going on holiday!

Hi Familymum,

When the DR. told me that I needed to inject B12, I was given a prescription to purchase syringes and injectable B12. When I run out of either I go to the pharmacy and I'm given what I need. The prescription stays on your pharmacy file. Maybe things are a little different where you live.

Hi JcilomMy problem is that my GP is thinking I don't need any further B12 so I do t think she'll give me a prescription. But I will ask, may if I'm paying fir it she will be more inclined to prescribe it?
