Self injecting

Hello all you lovely lot.

Just looking to see how often a newbie should be injecting? I’ve heard lots of different things ie: every day for 2 weeks or every other day for 2 weeks and then every week for 8 weeks?

Please can you advise me for the best possible way?

Thanks

different protocols in different countries - and also depend on the type of B12 being used.

standard protocol for UK where hydroxocobalamin is used is:

Non neurological involvement: 3xweek for two weeks followed by maintenance 3 months

Neurological involvement: 3xweekly until symtpoms stop improving, followed by maintenance every 2 months.

Note: maintenance regime often isn't frequent enough and best if you can get it is to use return of symptoms as trigger for maintenance doses.

US protocol, where cyanocobalamin is used tends to be something like 4 weekly, followed by 2 weekly for a while followed by monthly but there isn't actually a standard protocol and it varies according to doctor/hospital.

Hi Hidden you may also need to have your Folate level monitored as this and the B12 you are injecting helps your iron to make red blood cells.

Hello, I am on folate tablets from the gp. As that was low.

That's good then

I s.i. alternate days for about 2 -3 weeks. Numbness in toes, hand tremor & tinnitus reduced considerably. I then stretched it to every 3rd day, until they disappeared completely. Went to once a week for a while, now inject every 4-5 weeks. Although I've since been diagnosed with fibromyalgia I can tell when I need a B12 injection.

What kind of tinnitus did you have? How long till it went away

The tinnitus was just liked a high pitched whine. I'd had it for several years and didn't realise it could be something to do with a vitamin deficiency. It was the first symptom to go--- within 2 weeks of injections. The loss of balance, numbness and pins and needles all improved very rapidly. Self injecting was one of the best things I've done to improve my health.

Not what you're looking for?
