I am a Natural Competative Bodybuilder and have been diagnosed with PA some years ago. At first it was ok on a three monthly jab. But since dieting for a show last year the symptoms are much worse. Do you self inject methyl or hyroxo? As I am thinking of self injection.

I am in us. ill have to ask doc. My PA went 4 years without diagnosis. I just thought it was fatigue. I developed parkinson like tremors in my hands and heart issues. The b12 i have im grateful for, but ill inquire with my dr.

Methylcobalamin is the form of B12 you should be taking. Cyanocobalamin is the form you want to avoid, it’s basically cobalamin bonded with cyanide and commercially produced. This is the type of B12 that is produced by bacteria fermentation for the purpose of low cost, cheap vitamin and food fortification. This is the kind of B12 that people fortify and all the different types of food, cereals and stuff like that out there at conventional grocery stores, it’s the one that’s really bad for you.

Not necessarily. Some may prefer it over other versions for their own reasons however as shown in this paper there is no advantage of methyl over hydroxo or cobalamin. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/258...

ALL the types of B12 available to us in injectable / lozenge / spray / tablet etc forms are ALL commercially made, methylcobalamin included.
Yes the cyano in cyanocabalamin indicates cyanide forms part of this. The levels of cyanide from supplementing with cyanocobalamin are minuscule and are easily eliminated by your body in the same way that the minuscule amounts of cyanide found in various common foods are eliminated.
Cyanocobalamin is not "really bad for you" - it is fact the reverse... lifesaving if you have a B12 deficiency or PA!

Yes, some people will still benefit from using the cyno form but it must be converted into a usable form of b12 first. In order for that conversion to take place, the cyanide bond must be released.
I don't know about you but I don't believe cyanide no matter how "miniscule" an amount is healthy for the body.
Adding more cyanide to the amounts we are exposed to on a daily basis is probably not a great idea. Why take something that contains cyanide when there are better options available?

Yes it does. There is less cyanide in 1 mg of cyanocobalamin than there is in a small glass of prune juice.

Well, being in the UK I would prefer hydroxocobalamin as that is cheaper, more stable and easier to get in injectable form that methylcobalamin.
In the US, cyanocobalamin is cheaper, more stable and easier to get in injectable form that methylcobalamin.
Methylcobalamin offers no advantages over other forms. The stuff about it not needing to be converted to one of the active forms (yes, there's more than one) is completely irrelevant.
Because, the first thing that happens to any form of B12 when it enters the cell is that the enzyme MMACHC removes the upper ligand (be it methyl, cyano or adenosyl) to form a cob(II)amin - which is then converted to the required active form (methyl or adenosyl).
