I have used prescribed Hydroxocobalamin for eleven years, and now wonder if it is safe to use Cynocobalamin which I have ordered from Germany. I’m having second thoughts that perhaps they are not compatible. This is my first order from abroad, as I have until recently managed on my eight weekly injection, however I have been feeling very unwell of late and decided to supplement my intake of Hydroxocobalamin, but unfortunately the Company I used only supplied Cynocobalamin in ampoule form. I would be grateful for any advice you can give me.

I’m sure that Cynocobalamin will be fine for you . You might have to inject more often than with Hydroxocobalamin.
It is the most used Cobalamin in the USA .
Nothing to worry about at all . U.K. changed to Hydroxocobalamin because it was thought to stay in the system for longer , so necessitating fewer injections . Best wishes .
Thank you so much wedgewood for your reply, it is a relief to know that I can use Cynocobalamin. However, I don’t want to stop my repeat prescription for Hydroxocobalamin and would like to know if it is alright to use it, as well as the Cynocobalamin alternatively?
By the way , Nennie , if , in future , you want to use Hydroxocobalamin , you could try versandapo.de
These are reputable German online pharmacies , which supply Hydroxocobalamin. ampoules . You need to look for vitamin 12 depot . “depot “ indicates that it is Hydroxocobalamin. The most popular ampoule is Panpharma ( 1mg x 1ml )
Hevert is 1mg x 2ml ,
Pascoe is 1.5 mg x 1ml .
Yes, I tried those suppliers, but unfortunately was unable to navigate the sites, I went so far then got stuck and couldn’t see any symbols for English. I bought mine from Amazon.de, as it was in English, I hope they are a reputable supplier, I know that Amazon U.K. is fine. However, a friend suggested this afternoon that they might be fakes! Which I hadn’t thought about, they are due to arrive next week, now I wonder if I should use them!!
No reason to think that ! German online Pharmacies supply the B12 ampoules that they sell through Amazon . B12 ampoules are only allowed to be sold through pharmacies in Germany . You will see the names of the pharmacies mentioned when you purchase them from Amazon.de
You need to use google chrome for translation if you go on German sites .
Unfortunately, Amazon.de do not sell the popular Panpharma B12 depot ampoules .
Not all German pharmacies will sell B12 ampoules to U.K. . Many only sell to EU countries . It saves paperwork . So we b12 ampoule users were disadvantaged when Brexit occurred.
Thanks wedgewood, you are a wealth of knowledge about all things regarding PA. Injections. I’m delighted to hear that the ampoules I have ordered will be genuine. I expect my friend was being over cautious. I look forward to starting my new regime of more frequent injections.
Thank you so much for all the information, and for taking time to reply. 👏🏻
I Usually use cyano, but feel perhaps it is not enough for me so I finally figured out how to order from Germany. I just bought some hydroxy for the first time from mycare.de. I am in the US and I could not navigate the site until I right clicked and translated to english. Then I was able to order 9, 10 packs of hydroxy. The shipping to the US was $33 and some change. I did not seem to need a prescription. The total was $97.00 This is what I bought. I hope it is OK to post this. If not I apologize.

Thank you EllaNore no need to apologise, hopefully I will be able to find how to translate the German sites into English when I try again. It’s kind of you to help.
I've been on cyanocobamalin for over fifty years and I'm still "clivealive" aged 81.
You may find you need to inject every 3 to 4 weeks but see how you feel between times. I started every four weeks in 1972 but now have them every three.
Personally when hydroxo was introduced in the mid 1980s I had an allergic reaction to one or other of the "excipients" (or ingredients) so have continued with the cyano.
I wish you well.
the only contraindication to the use of cyanocobalamin that I am aware of is in patients who have family history or diagnosis of a rare genetic condition - leber's syndrome - (more common in males)
