Self-injecting B12 1000mcg/2ml ampoules

I've sourced a ready supply of Hydroxocobalamin 1000mcg (brand name Hevert), but instead of coming in (what is for me) the usual 1ml ampoules, they come in the same strength of 1000mcg, but in 2ml injectable ampoules. Do/can/should I inject these as normal into my upper arm, or is this not the form with 2ml ampoules?

Thanks in advance

Its a common problem since I believe Hervert only do Depot (Hydroxo) in 2ml.

Since you can't really divide them up safely and you won't get 1mg in one go that way, its best to do it in one go.

However, 2ml is too much for a) regular/daily injections and b) too much for deltoid muscles.

Some people are OK but I can feel the burn if I do 2ml Hervert in my deltoid. My stash is being ignored in the cupboard since I can't currently inject in my thighs.

So - ideally get the 1ml Panpharma if you can. If you can't, Hervert is fine for thighs (vastus lateralis) if not more than every other day.

Thanks Pickle, I suspected so, so I'd better start learning to use my thigh! As for frequency, I'm leaving that decision until after I've given myself a loading dose of 6X1mg/1ml and see how I feel then. Given how I feel, (been feeling for over a year really), I suspect it'll be weekly, maybe fortnightly, but we'll see.

Thanks again

Sounds good to load up with the 1mcg/1ml. Then the Hervert is more than OK for weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

The one I buy over the counter in France is 1000 cyanocobalamin in 4 mls. I just buy bigger syringe and inject into thigh. The one I get in Spain is 2 ml but can’t get it without a script. When my script was filled I couldn’t get anymore. I’m sure you’ll be ok … can you inject into the thigh. It’s painless. Watch a YouTube.

Best wishes

I use the 1ml in my arm, alternating left and right, is this ok or is it too much for the muscle? I inject every other day (and sometimes leave a 2 day gap). I managed about a month of alternating with my thighs too, but since May it's impossible it stings or bleeds (if bad luck) or sometimes just won't go in. So just my arms now. I keep meaning to get round to doing a new thread, as the Neuro they sent me to a few weeks ago dismissed b12 in a millisecond as a possible reason for all my issues - despite me going over 2 years with no injections (due to covid rules and then the surgery switching to tabkets). She simply said no it won't be that. My surgery put me in an injection every 3 months in Feb after I lobbied them, but I also started self injecting. Haven't told anyone medical. Still suffering but things seem to have stopped worsening, but not much better either. still tingly numbness, balance gone, numbing feet, tottering, etc etc (my only other posts on here were Feb I think) Anyway, that's all for another thread if I ever get the time!

Yes 1ml in alternating arms is often fine. It can be harder to find spots to inject after a while but 1ml is no problem for the arm.

It takes a long time to recover or reduce the symptoms enough to not notice. Keep going and don't give up, despite what Drs tell you

Thank you. I'd been worrying that "left arm, day off, right arm, day off, left arm, day off, right arm, day off" on loop was returning to the same arm too frequently. I managed with my thighs in the loop up til recently but it's impossible now. The nurse at the docs practically has a heart attack if you offer the same arm they used *3 months* earlier!!

I had frozen shoulder, so have injection in good arm monthly, no problems.

Twice a week in the same muscle should be maximum. Like you say its a 3 day gap which is what's needed for the injection site to heal. Should be no more otherwise you risk muscle damage.

I used Hevert ampoules when I first started self-injecting , and found them absolutely fine . I used a 2ml syringe to extract the B12 . I injected into my thighs , into the middle outer third of the Vastus Lateralis muscle . ( internet picture ) Pascoe make a 1ml ampoule , but it contains 1.5 mg b12 depot .

As you prefer 1ml x 1mg ampoules , Panpharma should be your choice. Use Reference number 16199653 , to get straight to the item versandapo.de usually have them in stock. ( German online pharmacy ,Charge €9.00 for DHL courier , no matter how many you buy . ) Use Google Chrome for translation

I used Hevert at one point though it's not my fave due to quantity. I would split 1 amp across 2 syringes because I was doing subcut and it's a lot for 1 shot.
