2ml instead of 1

Hi,

I self injected for the first time this evening (my...it took me hours to actually put the needle in! 😁 & if I showed you the video you’d wee yourselves laughing & I had 2 glasses of prosecco (friends advice as she was texting me as I was preparing) which I won’t be having before injecting again!

I thought I’d ordered 1ml ampoules from Germany but in the syringe they were up to the 2ml mark & on actually reading the box properly I do indeed have 2ml ampoules ... 50 of them, well 49 now!

I was planning 1 every other day until symptoms improve then was going to see how I get on with x1 monthly...

can someone please clarify I’d be best doing 1 every 4 days with 2ml ampoules?

it isn't actually the volume of fluid in the ampoule that matters its the amount of B12 in the ampoule - which will depend on the strength of the liquid.

you should be aiming to inject 1mg of B12 every other day if doing loading doses.

There should be somewhere on the packet that gives you the concentration - eg 1mg/2ml or 1mg/1ml

It’s in German but I can work out - 1 ampoule is 2ml :hydroxocobalamine 1000ug.. so is that 2ml fluid only 1ml b12?

You have got 1mg of Hydroxocobalamin in 2ml of saline . I bet you chose the Hevert 1mg x 2ml Hydroxocobalamin ampoules didn’t you? I used those for sometime , but eventually changed to the Rotexmedica 1mg x 1ml , because I just thought injecting less fluid would be better . It actually makes no difference . Both equally good . I used the hervert 2ml, it was a bit of a pain getting it into the 2ml sryinges I had bought and I found it quite viscose tiny air bubbles would almost stick to the plunger. Found warming to body temperature helped them release a bit easier. I have some of the 1ml Rotexmedica to try now.

Well done on your first injection, the prosecco doesn't sound like a bad idea. I did several countdowns and fails but no video 😋

It isn’t actually viscous at all .It’s.really watery , That’s why you can use a very fine 25 gauge needle to inject it . If if were viscous you would have to use a thicker needle .Flicking the syringe should bring the air bubbles to the top . Then press the plunger gently and watch the liquid rise and see a droplet of red appear on the end of the needle —— ready to go ! You can award yourself a prosecco !

I have indeed yes. I think I’d prefer less liquid so will certainly order the other next time.

yes, one ampoule only contains 1mg of B12 so loading would be 1 ampoule a day.

I also had a terrible time to start with. I would sit for ages psyching myself up to quickly stick the needle in as advised by a retired nurse. I have now gone the opposite way. The big block for me was the thought of applying enough force to push the needle most of the way in in one go but now I find it much easier to go in slowly. I pinch a small area and gently rest the needle against my skin. It then needs very little weight before it starts going in and surprisingly I don't find it sore unless I'm too close to a nerve in which case I just lift the needle and move it a small amount to the side.

Hehe...well well done you your first injection and good luck if you are doing you second one today. It definitely gets easier. I'm doing it weekly and today is the day. :o)

I accidentally ordered 1.5ml ones first time, then I bought some 2ml ones in Greece on holiday last year. Still works just as well, but it feels like a lot of liquid! Take it slowly; it'll be fine.

And well done on the first one. Prosecco sounds a very good idea!

Just done today’s - just a tad to the right of where I did the first & about 3/4 in it felt sore inside so I left the needle at that point & slowly released the B12....was shaking like mad so am thinking the needle was wobbling & that is the cause of bleeding when I took the needle out, needing a plaster as it wouldn’t stop & also it’s sore around the site & that whole side of my thigh feels a bit weird-sort of dead but hurting a bit. Any one had that before? X

Good you got the second one done,👍 Alternate between legs for your loading doses. I always needed a plaster. Never dead feeling though. Probably just going in the same leg so soon and shaking.
