I posted a while ago regarding distant relative who had pneumonia in hospital being diagnosed with b12 deficiency, (P.A.) last week told he had leukemia (terminal) last night heard he had between one week to a few months.
Again one has to question is it b12 or not ? As when you look online bone marrow biopsies can be interpreted as leukemia.
I also came across research articles about people with high serum B12 levels but with B12 deficiency symptoms (functional B12 deficiency). Some articles said this could occur in people with leukaemia.
Just feel like hibernating at the moment, just seems one thing after another. Should expect these things when we
Are getting older ! Just too much at once !
Morning. I have PA and my little sister passed away from leukaemia when she was 13, but I’mnot aware of any connections. But I’m going to look into it a bit….

All I have read was vitamin b12 deficiency mimicking acute leukemia. We know he was diagnosed shortly before this diagnoses. Maybe just a coincidence!
Hi Sallyannl, my father died of leukaemia many years ago and, as I had been diagnosed with B12 deficiency, he was checked and found to have pernicious anaemia. Dad thought he had contracted leukaemia from lots of x-rays during the War but it could have been due to working with asbestos or for some other reason. Not sure that helps but I thought I would let you know. Best wishes.
I just googled b12 and leukemia, and it said about bone marrow aspirations that can mimic leukemia BUT was found to be B12 deficiency. Who knows !
The only thing I can say is several people have been diagnosed with cancer and for some reason its suddenly disappeared. It's very difficult to say one way or another, just a coincidence that this medical paper highlights it.
so sorry to read this Sallyannl , one of my neighbors was originally told she had a B12 diff and went onto B12 injections but did not improve and after further investigations was told she had a type of Leukemia that had to be treated with a type of chemotherapy + blood transfusion , she has been having Chemo 3 weeks out of four and a transfusion once a month on a rolling basis for about 2 years now and dispite spending a lot of time at the hospital is still managing to stay fairly active and getting out on short trips , I wish you and your relative all the best treatment possible and send you a virtual hug, take care my thoughts are with you.
Pleased to hear your neighbour is coping well, she obviously has the determination to fight her condition. At the moment he has been discharge from hospital,
I do not know if, or what treatment he has had other than b12 injections, I do know they talked of chemo but whether they think its futile I dont know.
I dont know how many injections he is having.Yesterday was reading pleaforsanity and his recovery
And another person writing by the name of Ernest2 who has leukemia, is it connected to b12.? I have read about bone marrow from b12 difficient can mimic leukemia.
Strange several people on the website re b12 deficiency have a relative or they have the condition.
I'm not sure. I know that B12 deficiency could in some cases be evident in bone marrow tests as this is where red blood cells are produced.
In Martyn Hooper's book, What You Need to Know About Pernicious Anaemia and B12 Deficiency, four causes of anaemia (literally not enough red blood cells or haemaglobin):
inadequate production of red blood cells because of dysfunctional bone marrow, lack of B12 or lack of folic acid
Destruction of red blood cells due to an autoimmune condition
Blood loss from serious injury/surgery
Inadequate production of haemaglobin- usually due to iron deficiency
I'm not a medical professional, so cannot offer much here. My thoughts are with you.
Yes.. I had bone marrow done, was all clear, but the fact my doctor at the time had given me b12 injection 24 hours prior to this obviously affected the results. When the specialist found out he was livid. I did have abnormal large blood cells though, folic ok ... so he put it down to b12 after nerve function tests and MRI Scan !
Hi, I know I shouldn’t post off the top of my head but if it helps I think there is science around severe B12 deficiency link to bone displasia(?) and from that all kinds of blood disorders????
