I have had gastro issues the last two months after using a proton pump inhibitor in May and was finally diagnosed with SIBO on Monday. My GI started me on Rifaximin and Neomycin last night. She did a liver function panel test before I started on the antibiotics and the AST was 52 and the ALT was 73. She is doing an ultrasound because of the elevated liver enzymes and I am terrified that it could be something catastrophic. Anyone had a similar situation with SIBO and any advice?
Thank you!

I have had those raised for years and ive been told not to worry. Sometimes its because you are dehydrated or its because of a medication you are on. I also have SIBO but opted not to do the antibiotics route and went for the natural which in studies has shown just as good a result but last longer. Im currently doing the yakult thing as a study came out saying that works pretty well on SIBO too.
The ultrasound came back normal. Now they want to do additional blood tests like GGT and AMA to look for any liver bile duct diseases like PBC because of the SIBO and elevated AST and ALT (although my alkaline phosphatase was normal).
