Anyone else also have a magnesium deficiency along with B12? I just found out my magnesium levels are quite low.

A few vitamins and minerals have gone lower in range for me or out of range j suspect if one absorption problem,Others will happen.I take a multivit with the lowest folic acid . (Can absorb that from food ??)

I'm on regular blood checks to monitor.

Very hard to keep balanced

The range for magnesium testing is very narrow. The body has an amazing way of maintaining levels in the blood by drawing on magnesium reserves in bones. Most of us have low magnesium levels globally.

Magnesium is an important co-factor in the absorption of VitD - along with VitK2-MK7

There are many types of Magnesium so choose with care.

I've not had my levels tested, but did quite a lot of reading around mineral deficiencies and various symptoms and now use a magnesium oil spray (quiets my restless legs and helps me sleep) as well as using lo-salt in cooking to help with my potassium levels. I found the spray to be more effective than Mg tablets that I'd tried in the past.

This is a big issue for me - im diagnosed PA and SI weekly. I have neurological and gastro issues but the b12 doesnt improve the gastro issues. I have low fecal elastase with no further diagnosis there.

I am convinced that i have low stomach acid and that i an deficient in minerals and vitamins which are causing a whole string of symptoms but feel like im talking to the air. Gastroenterologist refused to test for deficiencies and ignored the low acid idea.

How did you get your vit/mineral levels checked? Was it on NHS? I really need to get these tested.

I’m so sorry to hear about your struggles. I live in US and honestly I just demanded to be tested. I did a lot of research and went to my physician with a list of tests I wanted ( magnesium, zinc, it copper, potassium, etc...). Here is my theory, vitamins are so cheap that doctors don’t bother to check for deficiencies because the treatment does not make any $$. Low B12 was honestly slowly killing me. Doctors in the US think they are just silly vitamins. They are NOT silly and they are very important to our bodies and our overall health. If low B12 can have such a massive effect on our bodies then so can other vitamins and minerals. Demand to be tested or find another doctor. Don’t stop until you find someone who will help you. Your health and happiness are worth the fight. Best of luck to you

I've suspected low stomach acid in the past. I've not tried to raise it with my GP (current GP initially stopped my injections for a year, so saving my energy for issues I can't find my way through). I think there's a self-test for low stomach acid that you can do involving baking soda - apologies, I can't remember the details. I have found that drinking a mildly acidic drink every morning has improved my digestion and general ability to absorb nutrients - a teaspoon of cider vinegar or lemon juice in a mug of warm water, nothing fancy.
