Magnesium supplements

I have read in several places that magnesium supplements are helpful for leg pain associated with b12d. Can anyone advise what type of magnesium is best to avoid side effects such as stomach or bowel problems. Thanks

I am unable to take all pill forms of magnesium (causes me constipation) but am able to bathe or wash in "sea salt". which is absorbed through the skin.

There are sprays you can get, most likely from a health food type shop. Just a couple of squirts on each calf and rub in.

Thanks. I already bathe in Epsom salts but the benefits are short-lived. I'm afraid my pain is too widespread to use a spray -whole of both legs and buttocks. Really wanted to find something oral. Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi sweetnessandlight, I use magnesium maleate, Cramp Defence capsules. Each capsule 70mg, I take 2, one morning and evening. I started taking these some months ago as I was having excruciating cramps in back of legs and I have to say my cramping has been much less. I chose this product after researching and it appeared to be less of an issue with laxative side effects. I also keep beside my bed a product Better You Magnesium oil which on the few occasions I went into cramp I mmediately rubed this into my legs and it helped to relax the muscle. These cramps are so bad the muscles lock. Very frightening. I have also found that if I have gluten or sugar or small amount of alcohol it triggers cramping so now avoid these. It would be worth checking these products out. I hope you get some ease soon. Best regards.

Thanks potter5. I will check out those products.

Hi,

I found this article helpful with magnesium- scroll down to where she talks about how to use magnesium.

Depends if you are naturally prone to diarrhoea/constipation so diff forms of magnesium can help with either. Magnesium citrate or glycinate.

Epsom salts are a different form of magnesium I believe- if you get the better you brand of magnesium flakes you can use them in the bath or make your own oil by mixing with water and rubbing in. I find it fantastic! And have similar symptoms to you. If I do it for a few days my symptoms virtually disappear

I use magnesium gluconate. 400 mg 2 times a day. Never bothers my stomach. It’s known for being easy on the digestive system. Good luck.

Thanks for that. Have got some of that one from Holland and Barrett. Didn't dare try it but I will now. Also tried rubbing wet epsom salts into my legs before showering.
