I have B12 deficiency (never tested for PA) and self-inject as well as monthly prescription from GP. Like many my ferritin levels are low. I have been prescribed ferrous fumerate but remember being told that there are better supplements out there. I have used Floradix previously but am now avoiding gluten.
Can you recommend any iron supplements - there's such a huge choice? Gentle on the stomach would be good!
Thanks.

I always suggest considering sources such as liver and black pudding. Though making sure you do not over-do it and end up with too much preformed vitamin A.
I take ferrous fumerate 210mg every other day. Spartane and solgar gentle iron. Also 14mg in a multivit . I alternate .
I tried liver ect and all I did was raises my cholesterol level. I still get it in small portions less often with vit c rich foods or juice . I've upped my kale and porridge that helps with the iron.
It took nearly a year to raise my ferritin levels to 58. I did feel alot less breathless and shaky when up to 40
I've never needed iron before from supplements even with childbirth .
So with me my ferritin dropped when b12 injections started. All part of repair I expect.
Like with most things better to gave smaller doses more often.
I was prescribed 322mg ferrous fumerate with folic acid
Made me feel unwell and upset my stomach. So only had one dose
You can also get an ionized fish you put in with cooking your food.
Ferritin can also drop with thyroid problems. A vicious circle as your thyroid needs ferritin /iron to work well. My daughter ha found this. I noticed my Go always include thyroid tests on my blood form.
I have used Spatone as you can use it direct from the sachet. The one with apple is best as it tastes better. It is very gentle and is well absorbed and dies not contain huge amounts of iron. I used it under the guidance of my GP when I needed to improve my iron results ( not just ferritin) and took 3 sachets a day for several months. Remember to have your iron panel done after a few months of supplementing to be sure you don’t take too much.
