Hi Everyone,

Can anyone tell me if you take supplements to boost your immune system, but have several autoimmune illnesses, are you actually helping your body to attack itself? Just wondering, as I'm trying to do the best to boost myself with vitamins etc.... MariLiz

I'm not sure what supplements you are taking, I just take what I am prescribed ( not everything) plus some things extra, and a good multi vitamin.

Hi Marre,

I'm taking a general multivitamin, but have recently started an immune support effervescent tablet, based on black elderberry. I guess I was just curious that if my own immune system is responsible for some of my ailments, maybe by taking something to aid the immune system, I'm actually making things worse rather than better? I started on the immune support as we were doing some babysitting with the grandchildren over half term. I always seem to pick something up from them!

Its a bit hard to think black elderberry will do you any harm, its most probably high in vit C etc so why would it do harm. Anyway if it helps you then that is good, if not why spend the money, is how I think. Best is to eat fresh natural produce, but with mal absorption you may get stuck, so I do try to eat extra of what I know I was deficient in after having a vitamin profile done, and take a good multi vitamin tablet if I remember, but I'm never sure it makes any difference to be honest. Keeping things in balance seems sensible to me, but I', sure we all have a very different balance of vits and minerals, so one size may well not fit all.. Marre.

Many thanks for the advice, Marre and fumanchu. I will continue with my supplements and see how it goes. I did have another B12 blood test last week, and because the result was over 600 my GP won't give me another B12 injection until the three months are up. I have started taking a sublingual spray now and until my next injection, to see if that reduces some of the symptoms. I didn't use the sublingual before the blood test, in case it messed up the true results. From what I gather from everyone on here, these serum blood tests are pretty useless anyway, and we should be treated for having symptoms! Thanks again. MariLiz
