If a doctor has prescribed the supplements then take the supplements. It looks like your results are borderline and that one doc is the type to treat, just to be sure.

Your serum iron is below range the last Gp missed that. Glad you have decided to keep up your supplements otherwise your ferritin level will drop. That's what I've been told in the past

Thankyou i pointed that out and she said " no we dont go off that" your ferreton is fine so no need to supplement, im kind of losing faith to trust a gp now?? But have chosen to stick with my original doct instructions to supplement, very confusing

A lot of people with symptoms of any type of deficiency would love a doctor to err on the side of caution and supplement them, I think the one that said to supplement is a good doctor! All the best x

Hi

Ferritin could still be higher anyway - ideal is 70-80 for women and 110-120 for men.

I was in the same situation and the doc decided not to treat. Iron 7.5, Ferretin 50, transferrin sat 13%

I decided to take iron on my own accord.

Yes you will do. Your personal level changed alot. My ferritin dropped from 61 to 32 Dr was unconcerned!! I'm also now seeing other gp on practice that said to supplement which I am but remained at 32 taking Solgar and ferrous sulphate altwrnate days. so hope will be higher next blood test in June/July. I'm also eating plenty of heam and non heam iron with vit c. I want to be between 70-90. Anything below 50 can cause fatigue ect. No idea why levels dropped. Hope you pick up soon. It takes a while.

No idea atm but yes fatigue been bad and my body really heavy, i also had a menstrual period 2 weeks after last which has never happened so getting doc to investigate that as well, i haven't been great since loading doses b12 in jan , and haven't been eating that well either, all other vitamins within limits but potassium was 4.0 when checked month ago, bottom end range is 3.5, i definitely feel like im lacking something as all full bloods coming up normal, doct also investigating pre menopause??

I will admit I only take iron supplements when anemic. My ferritin tends to hang around 30, but I don’t notice symptoms till I’m very anemic. I think it’s because I have adrenal insufficiency and that can really mess the body up as it’s a vital hormone that without we die, so iron is not at the top of my list as a result. That being said, ferritin should at the very least be above 50, as it helps with boosting the immune system. So there is something to be said about having healthy ferritin levels.
