I’m finding when I’m very fatigued my gums bleed a lot amd I get sore gums. I do brush my teeth and all the usual things for good hygiene but is there a connection with PA and bleeding and sore gums?
And is there anyway to make these effects go away or get less bleeding and soreness ?
Thank you x

Are you getting g enough b12 too.? Reflux can causes problems with your guns and teeth too . My daughter gets that . She tries to have acidic things at every meal to help stomach acidity. Lemons and limes squeezed on ? Avocados ect
I use cider vinegar on greens ect.as I like the taste of the vinegar more!
If you look back through pots through topics there are lots of people with this problem that do different things to help.
I am feeling really run down at the moment and for about maybe say 4 weeks now. I’ve had my injection a few days ago. I’m not sure about my b12 level would be a problem if I’ve just had the injection but I’m due to top up my self in a few weeks.
I did mention folate acid to my gp as it’s been known to be low with me but not was not interested in doing a blood test to check for me so looks like I’ll get it done online maybe
Yes- I got bleeding gums a lot at first, and sometimes would wake in the night with a mouth full of watery blood. This gradually went, but can return when low.
I saw it (and hair loss) as B12 deficiency symptoms, but GP thought both to be either ferritin or folate levels, both of which were low but in range. I was having injections for B12 deficiency, 3-month course of tablets added for folate and ferritin, so hard now to disentangle - but it did improve quite quickly.
I'd get both checked - if only so that it is on your record that one/other was low initially. Something to be monitored -as it took quite a while for both to be at a good level and stable. Unstable for a couple of years, so these still get checked regularly by GP.
It could, in my eyes, be just another B12 deficiency symptom: if fingernails can delaminate, why not sore and bleeding gums too ? Any cell has the potential to be adversely affected which is in part why diagnosis is difficult: a GP first needs to recognise the possibility of a relationship to B12 in a very wide range of varying symptoms. Also dealing with a very flawed set of diagnostic tests - another aspect that needs recognition among medical professionals.
Ferritin blood test is the usual test used to see if you are deficient in iron. There are further tests that can be done.
An iron deficiency can cause symptoms similar to those of B12 deficiency: fatigue, dizziness, fast heartbeat and inability to concentrate. Having too much iron also causes problems (and is difficult to get rid of) so it is not a good idea to supplement unless you have been tested and found lacking.
If you have PA/B12 deficiency, the following can be found to also be low or below range: folate, ferritin, vitamin D - and thyroid can be affected too. A good GP would have run tests for these early on, treatment given if needed to raise levels, and then be monitoring them regularly to ensure that they are at good levels and stabilised there. It takes a while sometimes- for me, a good couple of years.
Bleeding gums might be a dental issue, but if the symptoms above are also a problem for you, worth investigating further. The problems are the similarities in symptoms between vitamin and mineral deficiencies, and getting a balance that works well for you.
Have you spoken to your dentist ? Not easy either at this time.
I need to call dentist tomorrow myself as recurring abscesses will not go away this time on their own- and have a few loose teeth. Tried to avoid an appointment - huge chicken !
I’ve had bleeding gums on and off for years, they recently came back and I never realised it could be connected! 😳
Just an update. I called my gp on Thursday with my concern and they said it’s a dental problem. They have no idea about b12 and my b12 is in a good enough range. So because my gps are so crap (Pardon me) I’m having to get a private folate test where you do a finger prick and send it off for £39 so I hope I get the test this week coming and can send it off and messaged to result soon after
