Just wondered if any of you have had improvement of bleeding gums when you started B12 treatment?
My gums have bled for many years when I brushed my teeth. The dentists I have had have said I have mild gum disease but I'd have thought after so many years with mild gum disease it would have progressed to more severe gum disease.
Hi SB. Yes, it was one of the first improvements I noticed. After supplementing with Jarrows 5000 mcg, sublingually, the bleeding gums stopped and I now find it a good visual indication of whether I need more B12.
My relative also found her sore, beefy tongue improved on supplementing with this.
Sleepybunny, I'm just back from the dentist having just had an extraction. My teeth are literally falling out my mouth. I've had a good dental routine and visit the dentist every three months for a check and clean up to try and stop this happening.
I can't be sure if it's the PA or thyroid problem. I personally think it is. My father had PA and had the same problem and a brother has the problem too. I already had the gum problems for many years before I finally got my diagnosis, which came as no surprise to me.

Sorry to hear that you having a hard time with your teeth. No-one ever seemed to comment on the fact my gums have been bleeding for so many years.
I wonder how much info dentists get in their training on spotting B12 deficiency?
I feel fortunate in my dentist and travel a long way for treatment and I have to say NHS.

Beefy tongue mentioned in one of the other replies is a classic symptom of B12 deficiency and one that dentist used to be trained to spot. Not sure they would be so aware of the bleeding gums. For me it was down to frequent gum infections - which could be a different effect of B12D coming in to play. Problems started in late my 40s - 10 years before a diagnosis. Bad teeth/bleeding gums something that my father had - and my has the same problems - though think he's actually lost more teeth over teh years than I have.
Gum problem has gone with getting my levels to the point where they need to be for me. They didn't actually stop on the normal regime - just since I started treating myself.
I had loads of dental problems prior to diagnosis, once i started treatment things have settled a bit. But when my level gets low(not in number values thats for sure!) i start grinding/clenching and get the problems back again.
After having perfectly healthy gums for almost 6 decades, 2 years ago mine started to bleed a lot, and dentist thought it may be start of gum disease, then I was diagosed PA and started on injections, my gums don't bleed anymore! Shame the dentist didn't think to suggest nutritional deficiency.
Went to the dentist today for my 6 monthly check up and as he was going through the tooth check/clean etc he commented on how healthy my gums where. Asked him whether they had improved from before and he said my gums/tongue/mouth were the best he had seen for a long time. The only thing I have been doing different is self injecting so it appears the extra B12 has made a big difference.
How often do you self inject?
I’m every 8 weeks at the surgery st the moment but that really isn’t suiting me. GP says too many side effects sre possible if I inject more often. 😖

If a GP said that to me, I'd ask GP to list what side effects they are referring to.
Some potential side effects may be relatively easy to live with and may be worth contemplating in my personal opinion if overall symptoms improve. One side effect I'm aware of is that colour of urine may change which to me is not hard to live with. Some on forum have experienced acne which can be upsetting to some.

Thanks for all the replies. On balance I think my gums bleed less than they did before I started to self treat but they still bleed.
