HI

My Mum has very sore / dry / deep cracked lips (in particular the bottom one both inside her mouth and outside) as a result of the pernicious anemia - she is applying Vaseline regularly but it does not seem to be helping - is there anything else she can do please? she has been told she needs the injection but is hesitant. any help or advice will be appreciated.

Is she not already receiving B12 injections ? She should be ,as she has been diagnosed with Pernicious Anaemia. She will get worse symptoms than cracked lips, if the P.A. is not treated . It’s not called ‘Pernicious’ for nothing . Cracked lips that are caused by P.A. will only be helped by B12 injections .Please pursuade your mother to have the B12 injections . ASAP !

She needs to fix the underlying cause - which means having injections.

In the meantime, she should see a pharmacist about the painful lips. I'm sure there must be something better than vaseline.

Hemp or calendula cream or blitex can work to heal then vaseline. Worth a try

Hi, I can very much sympathise with your mum as I've got the same problem. I started taking tablets with b12 and that is when it came on. Blisters inside and outside of the mouth. Tongue feeling to big for the mouth. Is really horrible and makes eating a pain. Has your mum taken tablets too?

I've stopped taking the tablets and it has gotten slightly better but very slow.

Wishing your mum the best and hope it goes away with injections.

Getting a similar thing and I've been having injections for a year. They are like little spots that normally appear one at a time but no sooner has one gone than another appears! Drives me mad. Mainly bottom lip too. I can't seem to stop them so far but recently found Blistex relief cream heals them quicker.

I think the lip sores are called angular cheilitis. Have a google of that and see if it sounds the same. Needs to be fixed from the inside unfortunately.
