Refused B12 injections

I have been having B12 injections for over 10 years every 12 weeks. Around week 10 I get very tired, eyes are sore and tingling in hands and numbness in foot. My surgery has just informed me that recent blood test indicates there is no clinical reason for me to continue with the injections . How do I now cope with my symptoms? Any advice much appreciated. I am considering have injections done privately but it is quite costly. Thank you.

You need to self-inject . It is so cheap and convenient . One you have got over your nerves , it’s a doddle . I know that it is wrong to discontinue your injections , and so should your doctor . Your levels need to be kept high and the guidelines state that there shoukd be no testing of B12 levels once treatment has stated . They are totally irrelevant. Try writing a letter to the surgery , insisting on reinstatement , as your symptoms are returning . If you have no joy, consider self-injection . Best wishes .

Thank you for the speedy reply. I am writing a letter of complaint to the Practice manager now. Do you know where it says that testing is irrelevant as I’d like to include a direct quote? It’s obvious to me that my levels will be fine at the moment as I’ ve had B12 injections regularly up until now but as this seems to be the main reason they are refusing to let me continue a direct quote would be good. Is it in NHS or NICE. I’ve looked but can’t see anything. Many thanks again.

I’m sorry I have read it on more than one source , but cannot find it . I suggest that you put our a new post new post , and I know that there are people out there who have these references at their finger tips .

Yes I agree . Write in and whilst fighting to get them back consider buying your own. I do both now as was unsure what was going to happen at my surgery.

Hi you’re not alone is the first thing to say. See if your GP will refer you to a neurologist to find out what is causing your symptoms if they maintain your B12 is within the normal range. I’ve reached stalemate with my GP until I see a neurologist in October. In the meantime I’ve had a couple of injections 6 weeks apart, done privately through a local pharmacy. £20 a pop but worth it to allay the fatigue. Not sure it has helped with my neurologist symptoms though - unless I’m being impatient. Hope this helps a little.

I've seen three different neurologists and 2 mri brain scans. Good to rule things out.

I had no explanation for my symptoms .

Three different theories that didnt match.

So inside why the Gp. Eaoring for neurologist on the b12 injection front. Usually its treat what you find. ??

If your b12 low why is your gp not treating you?

Yrs it's difficult as it can take time for any improvements .

Not what you're looking for?
