I saw that you had had no answers , so I thought I would respond , to show that you are not being ignored ! I’m the U.K. Why do you want to inject Adenosylcobalamin? I’ve never heard of it as an injection . If it is available, it would be very unstable , and difficult to keep active . Hydroxocobalamin or Cynocobalamin are the usual B12 injections for B12 deficiency/ Pernicious Anaemia . Hydroxocobalamin is supposed to stay in the system for longer .than Cyno.

Methylcobalamin can be obtained in the USA . I can’t give you the sources for USA at the moment , but could do tomorrow if you wished . .

We use Hydroxocobalamin here in the U.K. , and it is excellent . But Cynocobalamin works well also .

Arnika - Germany...great product

Yes , Arnika manufacturing pharmacy in Munich , Germany . They manufacture Methylcobalamin ., and sell it in packs of 10 single-use ampoules . You need to Email them to get prices and order — manufaktur@arnika-apo.de

or phone - 049 89 452 468 468 . They speak and write good English . Pay with pay pal . They do not have a website where you can order . It needs to be refrigerated, which it obviously is not whilst being transported .

I’ve tried , it and for me it was no better than Hydroxocobalamin, and much more expensive .But to each his own . It may suit others .

This is correct apart from refrigeration. Arnika instruct it to be stored between 15 - 25 degrees centigrade

B12 in methyl and adenosyl forms is extremely heat and light labile. Methylcobalamin does need storing in a fridge and away from light Adenosylcobalamin is just far too unstable for use as an injectable.

Thanks. You obviously know more than the manufacturer

Yes, they do say it need not be refrigerated . I suspect they say that because they do not ship it in special cool containers, which is expensive and express courier would have to be used . They would lose a lot of business if they told customers that it should be refrigerated. It is acknowledged by scientists that Methylcobalamin should be kept refrigerated .

Methylcobalamin needs to be transported in powder form and reconstituted with saline or water for injection once received. Then stored after mixing in a fridge with vial wrapped in silver foil.

If buying in individual ampoules, hydroxocobalamin is the way to go. It is much more heat and light stable.

MLM666. We do not recommend storing reconstituted methylcobalamin for multiple dose use. Once this product has been opened and mixed, the contents are open to the environment and are no long sterile - storage by any means brings with it a risk of contamination (since the product is no longer sterile).

It is always safer to use single dose ampules of B12 for injection (in whatever form of B12 is used).

In addition to the other issues that Foggyme has mentioned, water or saline for injection are prescription-only products in the UK. So it really doesn't get over the problem of acquiring what is a prescription-only medicine (injectable B12) in the UK. Just that instead of it being the B12 Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient, it is the water you need to be able to inject it.

What's wrong with cyanocobalamin. Just as good as, if not better, than adenosylcobalamin.

It’s synthetic

Foggyme profile image
FoggymeAdministrator in reply to KAS18

KAS18 - Please see my reply to MLM666, above.

In essence, ALL B12 is ‘synthetic’ (i.e. manufactured). Cyanocobalamin is widely and successfully used in many countries (and by some on the forum) as the cobalamin of choice.

There are many inappropriate and inaccurate websites that peddle nonsense about cyanocobalamin - usually in order to promote their own specific agenda and/or sell their own products!

So what?

All B12 you buy is synthetic. It is made by bacteria in large vats. The B12 is isolated and converted to cyanocobalamin because that is the most stable form.

It is then bought up by various forms who may, or may not, convert it to other forms.

Cyanocobalamin is more stable and cheaper than methylcobalamin. It is just as natural and just as, if not more, effective. There are many reports of methylcobalamin causing unpleasant reactions.

Some idiot websites say that cyanocobalamin is dangerous because the liver has to convert it to methylcobalamin before it can be used. That is doubly wrong. Cyanocobalamin is converted to cob(II)alamin in the cell. Methylcobalamin is also converted to cob(II)alamin in the same place in the cell. After that both forms are identical.

The idiot websites say that dangerous amounts of cyanide is released. It is right that cyanide is released - but it is the same amount as you'd get from seven apple seeds.

Adenosylcobalamin degrades rapidly and is far too unstable to be used in injectable form.

Methylcobalamin, is the best form. I buy mine as powder, add saline for injection and use. But the amber vial needs storing in the fridge once reconstituted and also wrapping in aluminium foil as it is easily degraded by light, even through amber glass.

Hydroxocobalamin is a good choice also. And high doses are used to chelate cyanide from the body in cases of cyanide toxicity.

So methylcobalamin or hydroxocobalamin are the two of choice for I/M or S/C injections.

Cyanocobalamin is synthetic and as well as being extremely bio-unavailable, ( about 1% is available as active b12 to humans so ~ 99% is inactive) it contains a cyanide molecule. Cheap but very nasty and avoid at all costs.

MLM666. Please see reply above (we do not recommend reconstituted powdered methylcobalamin for multi dose use - for the reason’s outlined above).

In brief - ALL injectable B12 is 'synthetic' (i.e. manufactured) - cyanocobalamin is neither nasty or, as you say, to be avoided at all costs - it is widely used in the USA and other European countries as the cobalamin of choice.

Methylcobalamin is A choice for some - but not the best choice. It's also less stable and more costly that hydroxocobalamin or cyanocobalamin.

Where can I purchase Injectable Hydroxycobalamin?

Foggyme profile image
FoggymeAdministrator in reply to KAS18

KAS18 - you'll get a better response if you, post your question in the main forum (members often don't see questions that are posted as a reply in another post).

It's a question that is often asked so if you could also use your question to search for previous posts - lots of posts with the same question (and hence answers) will pop up.

You really need to say what country you are in .

I'm here in the US too. I'm using the standard cyanocobalamin and it works great. Don't believe all of the online hucksters trying to tell you need methylcobalamin.

I get a prescription for cyanocobalamin from my doctor and then take it to my pharmacy. Maybe you could ask you doctor to write a prescription for hydroxocobalamin.
