I have been self injecting methylcobalamin subcutaneously with prefilled 1ml syringes that I purchase from a local naturopath. It recently came to my attention that the strength of the B12 is 5000mcg. That seems really high. I believe the dosage should be 1000mcg per 1ml. Does that mean that I should be injecting perhaps .5ml? Or does it really matter? Which is more important? The amount? Or the strength?

The dose recommended on Nice guidelines is 1mg b12
1mg/1ml
The b12 dose is 1mg. Sometimes in 2mls of fluid.
The dose is the important part.
Check with the person you are buying it from. Not sure what you mean by saying should you inject 5ml?? That would be Increasing your dose ×5 ??
Have you felt okay? as not only a very large dose as you say but it's of the type some dont get on with .
I see what you mean .5 is still 2,500 b12
It's 1/5 of the pre filled syringe if 1mg b12 wanted.
Discuss it with your naturopathic doctor

what is important is the amount. The reason for using 1mg (1000mcg) doses for injections is that on average it will get you to the best balance between removal and effective dose as the rate at which B12 is removed from your system increases as the amount in your blood increases.
If the strength (and I'm taking that to mean concentration is 5000mcg/ml then to get 1000mcg you would need to use 0.2ml.
