Methylcobalamin 5000mcg patches - do they work?

Hi, I have just got some B12 patches and would be interested to hear from anyone who has found these helpful. I have 6-weekly injections but when my life is very stressful they don't seem to work. I have had terrible breathlessness like my lungs are full of wool. I asked my GP for a blood test because of having numb feet and he put "MH" on the request form which means "mental health". In the past when I have been breathless for weeks several GPs said "go home and relax, it is a panic attack". I called an ambulance because I felt as though I was suffocating, but blood oxygen levels were "normal" according to the paramedics. Taking an ordinary multivitamin seems to help. Has anyone tried B12 patches?

The only thing that helps me is an injection . I am forced to self-inject weekly because the P.A symptoms start returning after a week .

If you would like i can give you the information you need to do this yourself . it’s easy and cheap . ( An injection costs about £1.60

everything included )

i’m outraged on your behalf that MH was put on the request form .

You could try using B12 nose/ mouth spray. Some people say it works for them ( didn’t for me ) the skin under the tongue and in the nose is different and some people find it helps . There are also sub-lingual lozenges available . All obtainable on Amazon . Didn’t help me either , but some people say they help .

if you would like the self-injecting information , Please just say .

The medical profession is very ignorant about Pernicious Anaemia and B12 deficiency. …

i have burning feet because of this ignorance, now irreversible . But i managed to get rid of totally numb feet by self injecting . The ignorance is appalling ,

Do read books about P.A. that our founder and Chairman , Martin Hooper has written ( Amazon )

Best wishes to you .

Some people do report patches working for them. This could be an example of the placebo affect (a very real scientific phenomenon) in action rather than the patches actually working as the B12 molecule is very large and it is difficult to see how it could actually get through the skin, unless the patches use micro-injection technology to get through the dermis - not sure if there are any commercially available patches that do actually use this technology. If you look underrelated posts you will see a list of posts that are on a similar topic and this includes some other posts asking about skin patches that might be of interest.

We have been told that in theory they don't work but I'm not sure how they manage to market them if they don't work at all?

While our "resident scientist" has a lot of knowledge he also gets quite a few things wrong and uses emphatic language so people tend to believe him regardless.

We haven't had anyone comment on here about their efficacy for them but I'm not sure if that's because the patches are no good or if they are then people are too busy getting on with other things. I don't remember many reports of them being useless either and I think that people may be wary of being bullied and rubbished by the "resident scientist" so don't dare say.

As you have bought them they are definitely worth trying - and please, please report your findings back to us!

On the subject of bullying by those in power because of implied knowledge, your Dr is unforgivable. It is a form of gaslighting and in my opinion if more of this abusive malpractice was highlighted and those who do it were struck off for this wholly wrong behaviour, it would be likely to at least pull some of the border line ones into being more accurate and caring.

If it is mental health then what are they doing to investigate it and support you?

It is their mental health/personality problems (often inadequacy or narcissism) that causes them to right someone off without questioning themselves. I wonder what your Dr would say if you said, "the facts suggest otherwise: why don't you question your obvious lack of knowledge of the subject?" 😜😁

In the meantime you'd do very well to see Wedgwood's excellent replies (by looking up her profile by double clicking on her name and looking under the heading" replies") on self injecting and join the rest of us who take our own lives back in hand.

It would be well worth getting your iron levels checked too - that also causes breathlessness.

Once you have started self injecting (don't worry, the thought of it is much worse than actually doing it - it's actually quite easy) it would be good to get your folate, potassium, magnesium and vitamin D levels checked too.

Good luck and I look forward to hearing about those patches - either way - thank you!

wedgewood here's the link!

All I can say is that if we present symptoms that doctors are baffled with it's a case of mental health !

If we went into a surgery with a broken arm, it is quite clear what's wrong.

It's obviously a case I cant see whats wrong, so there's nothing wrong with you, it's all in your head.

God forbid you to argue !

I'd love to erase my medical records, and put the correct information along with my opinion of the doctor !

😀

Try the patches you have nothing to lose

I did try patches when I realised that I had low B12 ( this has been edited out of my original response to you . I don’t know why ) They did not help , although I used more than was suggested . I had several sticking on me when I went to see a private doctor( I was feeling so desperate at the time ) , who laughed his socks off at my appearance . In a way I feel I should not be telling you this , because it might influence your attitude to them . You should just have tried them without asking anyone’s opinion on them , as I did ( didn’t know about the PAS way back then ) Any how , now you have found this forum , you know where to come for advice and help . All the best .

Yeah, I was the same. I had at least 2-3 patches on each arm and they did nothing. I tried the mouth spray and that did nothing either. lol But like you I was desperate.
