Good morning.Yes I’ve had to have blood drawn at a private clinic in northants even though my endo asked gp to do an urgent am cortisol test he refused citing lockdown but agreed to loading b12 doses ,what’s the difference it’s still involves a nurse with needles, the labs were still open,no wonder people are ill.

I live in Essex.

My surgery okay. I wrote requesting a blood form.

I hoped it would be done and left at the surgery .

To my surprise it was posted.

I had bloods taken at the surgery. I also go for b12 injections.

HCA has trained as a phlebotomist

If you get the form there are usually a few options of where to get it done.

I waited a bit longer 5 months which Gp obviously thought reasonable as on iron and I know watching my thyroid as Always puts it on.

Nope. My friend in West Sussex had a blood test last month. My Mother, in Essex, has had two since the lockdown.

The telephone appointment service seems to be permanently on hold - After the recorded message cut itself off out of conversation ! Although the form was sent by the GP there is no chance of a follow up without these results - Is there any private test available OR is it the way forward....... !!

Talk to your surgery they should help you access a phlebotomist in your area.

With medichecks it’s £30 if you get the blood done at one of their recommended clinics by the nurse,in my case that was Kettering ultrasound Private clinic, they were excellent.or you can arrange to have the nurse visit you at home now ,that’s £55.

I’m having a panel of 47 tests done like a health mot plus the intrinsic factor test done so it’s one appointment for however many tests you need done.

I know it seems a lot of money on top so of the costs of the blood tests but needs dictate. If the gp practice say no citing lockdown then there’s not much I can do.

Some of the stuff I’m having tested they’d definately not do so it’s worth it to me.

\\o// Coronavirus is either Man-made OR God-made ! Due to the divine judgement on planet earth millions of people are dead and dying..... The point is: something good have to come out of this pandemic episode, otherwise repetition of the same and on-going.......

Something good should come out of this but humanity has a hard time not repeating the same mistakes. It takes a global response to tackle the future: climate change, water, plastics, the weapons industrial complex and pandemics together, if not we r looking at a bleak future for our grandkids.

Our teaching hospital in Sheffield has set up a phlebotomy drive through at the music arena. It started off just for hospital out patient bloods but GPs have also been sending patients and it’s great and very well organised

I had one done at the surgery the week after the lockdown started. Then there was another a couple of weeks ago for a haematology consultation which got into a bit of a mess as it was arranged by telephone for me to go into their department and confirmed by letter then the community nurse knocked on the door two days before as she had been told to visit, but according to the haematologist telephone appointment letter she was supposed to have come before the telephone consultation.

In the end I had a bruise in both elbows as the first wouldn’t flow and the second one needed encouragement.

The community nurse came to the door with apron and gloves on together with a mask and more or less forced her way in announcing she was safe. So far no repercussions and the bruise finally went yesterday.

Bruising does not mean blad venepunture it can be your fluid levels - did you apply pressure , did you bend your arm . Maybe her attitude was due to being trusted up as chicken - anyone given how we feel in our masks and gowns

in reply toFrenchiebabe

She was just bossy. I do take apixaban twice a day.

As per government guidelines- GP surgeries are told what they can and can’t do - not GP being awkward - only urgent care

in reply toFrenchiebabe

They could answer their phones a bit quicker. Three days is rather a long time to get through. And that has happened three times now.
