Can symptoms get worst before getting better on hydroxocobalamin injections

My husband has recently started self injecting to suplement the ones he gets every 12 weeks from gp. He has had 4 injections in the last eight days working out about 1 every other day but his symptoms seem worst. We were not expecting symptoms to improve straight away but not expecting them to get worst either. He's sleeping even more than before. Although he always did have days when he'd just sleep most of the time so maybe it's just coincidence that it's happening now. Has anyone else experienced getting worse before getting better when increasing the frequency of injections so much?

Hi timmysmom it may be that the twelve week gap between "maintenance" is two long and your husband, now having had alternate day injections, is experiencing what many do when starting with "loading doses" at the very beginning of treatment.

He cannot "overdose" on Vitamin B12 as any excess is excreted via his urine. Is he able to eat plenty of vegetables for Folate or does he supplement that?

I am not a medically trained person but have had P.A. for over 47 years.

I wish you both well

Thanks Clivealive, I've bought him some folate tables which he started 2 days ago, is there a particular does he needs to take? I've also seen posts on here about taking potassium, magnesium and multi vitamins so will look at getting those. He's not good a eating healthy food.

Personally I have take 400mcg Folic Acid every day for more years than I can remember together with ferrous fumarate 210mcg and an "over 70s" multivitamin plus half a banana each breakfast.

In addition I am on medication for diabetes so can rattle when I move :)

Thanks Clivealive, my husband is on Metformin and another drug for type 2 diabetes. The GP keeps blaming the diabetes for his tiredness and other symptoms but we have a few friends with diabetes who are no where near as poorly as my poor hubby.

Hi

I recently had my last loading dose and I started feeling awful I started getting a chesty cough, twitching in my arms and legs and sleeping quite a lot. I assume that it must be the b12 injections and that these symptoms will die down. I am not due to have my next injection until end of March now.

Hope he starts feeling better soon.

Thanks Fuschiapink 41, it's good to know he's not the only one feeling worst😏. I have been starting to wonder if it's worth it when it makes you worst. But hopefully he will start to see an improvement soon. I hope you soon feel better too.
