I am kind of surprised that I am not reading about agitation and insomnia as a major side effect of B12 or B vitamins in general. I think that is how I ended up so deficient; I have always had such bad insomnia I just stopped supplementing and cannot tolerate many high B foods.

Does insomnia get better?
anecdotal evidence on the forum is mixed around impact of B12 on sleeping - I tend to find it helps me to supplement just before I go to sleep - others find the opposite.
not sleeping could definitely be a symptom of B12 deficiency. Not sure which cellular process(es) it is that is involved ... low folate probably wouldn't help either.
Thanks Gambit. Do the idea that “it might get worse before it gets better” probably applies here?
I tend to have some insomnia the first couple of nights after my monthly B12 shot. I've found that if I take calcium and magnesium supplements and make sure I eat a lot high potassium foods the insomnia isn't as bad.
Thanks. Would never think to take potassium.
I don't take potassium supplements because I think that can be dangerous. I get extra potassium from food sources. I eat bananas, potatoes, etc. I also drink coconut water and watermelon water.
Insomnia and agitation were just two of the many symptoms I have, but not all the time. It was very frustrating since adequate sleep is very important to healing and a better sense of well being. Perhaps not for everyone, but I recently was approved for my MMJ card. ( I am in USA) I don't use during the day, but I have found that a few puffs or CBD caps in the evenings allow me to sleep much better. I still get occasional nights of agitation or sleeplessness, but far less often. Not recommending for all, just in my case it has helped.
