B12 deficiency, PA and blood donation

Hi again,

After introducing my case in the last post I wonder whether a blood donation can cause (or worsen an existed) PA? and more generally b12 deficiency?

I'm 35 years old and 1.5 years ago I had donated blood at work and all of a sudden I became terribly weak and dizzy up until today, along with additional neurological problems developed in the last few months. The blood count were all fine with no regular Anemia except LYMP abs a bit low (1.37). My b12 blood test results were 331 pmol/L after the blood donation and the level inclined over time. My last ones (on March) were 191pmol/L. 1/2 year ago I have also developed chronic gastritis which made the b12 absorption worst I believe.

Most people who donate blood feel weak on the day of the donation and they go back normal quite quickly. However, I kind of still stuck on the post-donation state while no doctor believes my condition has something to do with the donation..

I'm about to see my GP this week and ask her to run PA tests for me but in the meantime I would like to know if the possibility of PA caused by blood donation is reasonable?

I imagine if you do

Have a predisposition to PA or any other condition if you were weakened by a blood donation it could come out.

Like some underlying conditions come out when you pregnant or weakened by a virus ect.

Only my opinion of course.

Some things do happen like that though.

Upsets the balance.

Thanks for your response. So I guess in other words my condition is unspecific to the donation and each illness could emerge when the body becomes weak? I was thinking that as blood donation depletes red blood cells it could imply specifically to anemia-related problems, aren't there any research on this issue?

Don't know.

Most people give blood without problems as they check your iron levels and medical history first.

Sure, when I gave my blood I was totally fine and felt ok

and they check my blood there and it was ok. But maybe my B12 wasn't and the donation made it worst.. Don't know

I imagine it's one of those things you will never know for sure unless the medics have seen it before. ! ??

I like to have reasons too.

I still have had no conclusive reason why I ended up so ill with such low b12

No.medical procedures

On no medications

Eat a varied good diet with meat

Ect ect

Only thing on the lists I csn identify with is age and menopause and stress .

All of which every woman gets but don't all end up ill. ??
