Can improved b12 affect need for thyroid hormones in hypothyroidism?

I have been self injecting b12 for about 2 months ( using to date 10 plus ampoules) and after a 2 week gap certainly feel the need for more, so believe b12 ‘deficiency’ at cellular level has been confirmed ( my b12 results were good, and my Gp wouldn’t test anything related to B12 for obvious neurological tingling/ vertigo etc, except calcium). But I also have a number of other ailments: hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s autoimmune disease, fibromyalgia and insulin-dependent diabetes... and have had regular all over pain, weakness, exhaustion, tingling etc for some years. Anyway I think the b12 may be having some positive affect re symptoms; my query is would it affect my blood tests re. Hypothyroidism , are there known egs of having to reduce intake of thyroid hormones ( levothyroxin and T3) as b12 improves?

In my case, I have had hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s autoimmune disease for 25 years, but not diabetes. I had a growing case of PA for decades and finally treated it 3 years ago. I take methylfolate and methyl/adenosyl cobalamine 3x per day in order to address my PA and get my blood levels up. However, I have not noticed any drop in my current 180 mg prescription for T3/T4 due to simply B-series vitamins.

However, I did notice a drop from 270 mg to 180 mg of T3/T4 when I began negative ionic fulvic acid once per day. Regular fulvic acid did not accomplish this, only the negative ionic suspension worked. My wife was able to go off both her thyroid and diabetes meds with negative ionic fulvic acid - and not even really any exercise introduction. Fulvic acid is the micronutrients we are supposed to get from our plant diet, but have been diluted out of our plants due to growth-accelerant pesticides now in prevalent use. The negative ionic suspension simply means 'in the form found in the phloem of plant based foods'.

Oh...yet another thing I might need to try! I have never heard of fulvic acid etc....you supplement it? I have gone down every route possible to try to limit my pain, exhaustion etc and fibromyalgia diagnosis over the last 2 years, and research suggested it was likely to be my relatively low FT3( about 33% thru range) so tried adding T3 to levothyroxin, then T3 alone(75 mcg)...but no improvement and ended up with higher blood glucose so had to reverse the t3 protocol. Not sure I understand your reference to ‘did notice a drop from 270 mcg to 180 mcg T3/T4’...do you mean your dose, that someone else is controlling? Meanwhile my symptoms included more obvious b12 type defiency ones, which my Gp refused to test in any way ( fibromyalgia diagnosis has a lot to answer for), so done DIY b12 injections and feel reasonable for a week till aches and tiredness start reappearing. I am now on 100 mcg levo./33 mcg T3 combo and FT3 and FT4 levels much higher than they were on same dose when going up to increase T3...only obvious difference being the b12. Everything is so slow fine tuning doses, then testing bloods...is there any way to know one is short of fulvic acid etc?

Yes, this is simple self-administered. I get mine here (I am not affiliated in any way with this product/company nor sales channel)

amazon.com/Trace-Minerals-R...

The first minute after drinking my first dropper of this, was akin to drinking a glass of water after a full day of dehydration. It was that satisfying body-wide. I felt this same surge body-wide the next day. After two days, the effect diminished - but there was no doubt in my mind that I was lacking something which this fulvic acid provided.

This quenching effect will recur if I take a more than 3 day break from the fulvic acid, and then resume taking it.

It’s all very odd what we are missing from our systems...whether more B12, more T3, magnesium, zinc, selenium etc etc, though the article Gambit references below isn’t very conclusive for fulvic acid, my gp wasn’t even prepared to test for something (b12) well known to be linked to other autoimmune conditions. I will investigate further and ‘have a go’ when I can be certain ( and prove to Gp) b12 injections have made a difference!

I haven't researched it but some people do report that they need to reduce thyroid hormones as a result of starting B12 therapy - one possible explanation is that thyroid hormones and B12 are used together in some processes so if you start to get B12 when you have been deficient the processes start running more efficiently because of the B12.

On fulvic acid mentioned by DecadesUndiagnosed - this is a recent article from the Journal of diabetes research

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

its a literature review and the conclusion is that it might help with inflammatory conditions but there is also some contra-indication and a long way from being a clear case for its use.

Thanks for this ref. to fulvic acid...just wish it was more conclusive! My inflammation marker (CRP) have always been reasonable ( 2 weeks ago 2.21 in range 0-5) so although I have numerous diseases associated with high inflammation this is not a very obvious problem causing my symptoms. Perhaps I just need much more b12 before I can get onto 2-3 months gap between injections. I’ll look into the fulvic acid more, but reluctant to add new protocols till I can be sure whether one is working, or not.

it may be that you just need more frequent B12 injections full stop - and I agree on not doing anything about the fulvic acid.

Hi, I suspect more than PA, B12 injections every other day seemed to work then didnt... last throid TSH was apparently normal (July 2022), so no investigations done, but I always suspect an issue here. Can anyone in this thread advise on where to get info on thyroid, diagnosis, etc? I just order the ionic fulvic acid mentioned in a reply, plus dulse capsules which I have taken in the past and I feel help. I just wrote a new post about my thoughts and concerns about other ailments relating to chronic fatigue and other symptoms... Many thanks, as always to this group members x

gosh, that original post was along time ago… since then have had Long Covid for over 2.5years which has knocked me back. But regards to your query re thyroid and been regarded as normal re TSH…if you want to go down this route further I’d suggest doing it with private blood test like Medichecks or Blue Horizon: with TSH, FT4, FT3 plus two antibodies and important supporting minerals/ vitamins ferritin, folate, vit D and B12. The Thyroid Uk forum on healthunlocked will provide you with much greater detail, most Drs. regard ‘normal’ TSH as showing there is nothing wrong with your thyroid or related axis,, but blood results from a test above would help guide and advise the knowledgeable members on Thyroid Uk pages to suggest next step.
