Do you all notice that there are times you need more b12 than usual? My 6-year-old son is recovering from a deficiency and things have been going well until this week, when suddenly his mood (which has always been the very first indicator) took a nosedive; he's become extremely depressed. The only thing I can guess is that school is ending and that's making him sad/anxious--but this is WAY extreme and clearly something has shifted; I'm wondering what the link is. Do you all find you need more b12 during times of stress?

I'm no expert. Stress depletes alot though and can stop you absorbing. The more you do the more b12 is used I think. I don't know how long your son has been treated but I imagine very difficult to get the regime right . You know him the best so if you think he needs more I'd give and discuss it with the nurse.
There is no obvious explanation but many sufferers, myself included, find that more B12 helps in stressful periods.
Poor you - it's bad enough when we're affected but for your child...!
Please make sure his folate, potassium, magnesium and iron levels are good alongside the B12 as they all work together and these are also responsible on their own for low mood and feeling bleak. Saying that, low magnesium tends to make you feel nervous and jumpy rather than bleak but everyone is different and it can make you introverted before you get to the nervous stage.
Well done for fighting his corner so effectively. x
Obviously more b12 helps...just increase dosage
