Vertigo issues?

Pinklady95 profile image

Ive been having B12 injections for 5 months now and vertigo has always been my worst symptom. Ive had the vertigo chronically every day all day long. It has left me bedridden. Does anybody else suffer from severe vertigo or has suffered from it? Im also on vitamin D protocol and on iron protocol too. Any suggestions? Im on cyanocabalamin.

I’ve got vertigo too. Worse when I lie down or try to sit up in bed. My B12 had been stopped by drs as my B12 was back up in February. Got tingly face, lips and sore tongue but Dr wouldn’t give me B12 so I’ve bought some myself. All my teeth ache as well but dentist says teeth fine! Only been out twice in last 6 weeks as too dizzy.

I have to take folate as well as got terrible dizziness and it has helped a lot, maybe ask your doctor if you need this to as I have to take it everyday along side the b12 injections.

I had vertigo and it went away :-)

How long did it take?

Relatively short, only about a month and a half of 2 injections a week. But other symptoms are still there (three months in now), taking longer. Anyway, I hear the order in which things come and go away (if they go away completely at all) differs per person. Vertigo was never my main symptom... So: while other symptoms are still decreasing, you should be persistent and continue treatment. Keep a diary: when you hit a plateau, decrease the dose. If your vertigo then still persists, maybe it's worth checking if there is another cause. But I expect it will decrease and hopefully go away completely!

I used to get vertigo every time I laid down. the room would spin for a while. It went away. like other symptoms occasionally I might experience them and I take that as a sign that my b12 needs to be increased. I use the methy sublingual to supplement the injections.

I have been suffering virtigo on and off for four years. I started b12 supplements as I have lots of other symptoms. {neuro} the virtigo has stopped.

How long did it take for it to finally go away?

I had 3-4 vertigo spells within the first week of starting methyl B12 sublingual lozenges and liquid. It seemed to occur when I had a bit too much and it always seemed to be the liquid so I have stuck mostly to the lozenges and I do 1000-2000mg three times a day instead of doing a bigger dose all at once.

Been going for 4 months now and haven't had a spell in about 2 months.

I did get vertigo, but like Hanneke12 , mine also went away. The only time I get it now is when I have to have antibiotics for anything and then it's awful and accompanied by headaches. (I'm guessing some antibiotics can deplete B12.)

It took self-injecting Hydroxocobalamin every other day for quite a long time to see the back of vertigo. I can't even tell you how long as symptoms seemed to disappear so slowly I barely noticed their loss. It was never as bad as yours is: I felt it when lying down/ getting up, turning over in the night (even with eyes shut) and worst: supermarkets, because you turn your head slightly many times up, down and sideways. This made me completely exhausted. Fast or unexpected peripheral movements (eg buses pulling away from bus-stops) would also provoke vertigo. Sometimes eyes also went "shivery" when tired.

Thankfully, all gone now. Afternoon naps, too.

I'm not "cured" and still have symptoms every day, but mainly milder and certainly some of the most debilitating have gone. Still injecting every other day to prevent return of all of the above.

Best way, I think, of seeing this gradual improvement and taking heart in it, is to log symptoms on a chart daily, grading their severity, or just keep a diary. If I get downhearted, I pick up an old diary and read what I was experiencing a year/ 2 years ago- makes me feel lucky.

Best of luck, Pinklady95 , and hope your frequency of treatment works for you over time. Cyanocobalamin -sounds like you are from the States..?

I don’t think it’s related you may have inner ear problems and phrocloperazine may help

Here in the UK I attended a hospital with a department which dealt with balance issues. A lady performed a procedure called the Epely Manoeuvre which involved a few twists of the head. I walked out of the hospital and have not had vertigo since. I had suffered for about 9 months and was at the end of my tether. Hope you get over it soon.
