Hi All,

I am new to this group. I am miss diagnosed of not having any issues with various blood tests. I have PA diagnosed my self and cyanocobalamin and hydroxobalamin doesn’t work. Lot of neurological symptoms body shaking and what not. Only methycobalamin works and that too only from particular brand(not sure why). I am taking 500 mcg methycobalamin injection every alternate day from one month with little improvements. Should I have to reduce the frequency as there are other problems like potassium, folate iron deficiency etc. ( no anemia For me)

Welcome. Did you have a private blood test to diagnose your PA or b12 defiency? Also if you've had bloods done to show other defiencies are you eating pottassium rich food like potatoes sweet potatoes coconut water. and greens. Dried apricots ect for folate levels. Or are you taking supplements as well. I get my bloodstuff done 3 Months after to try and get the levels right . Some people like me need to take vitamin d maintenence dose daily. What does your doctor recommend?

Hi Nackpan,

Yes I have done the tests for intrinsic factor and anti parietal cell antibody Positive. Since I work in Germany my vit d was low (8) but now I am in India and my levels of vitamin D are fine with 40+ After supliments and sun baths. My vitamin b12 was 102. it’s been more than 6 months of having symptoms and I have started with injections only for last one month. Lot of damage is already done especially the neurological. My iron, folate are in range. The sublingual methyl also doesn’t work. Now I am in confusion to go back to Germany as the doctors don’t understand my situation and they don’t have methylcobalamin as in India

There is a source of Methylcobalamin in Germany . Arnika pharmacy in Munich produce it . I have purchased from them in the past , but switched to Hydroxocobalamin, which works just as well for me . You can email Arnika ——— manufaktur@arnika-apo.de

You can also phone them on —— 004989452468468

They all understand English .

You can obtain Hydroxocobalamin at any pharmacy in Germany over the counter .

I carry my B12 ampoules to many countries without any trouble . You do not need a prescription for B12 ampoules in Germany . You can buy them over the counter .

Sorry for coming again. Since hydroxocobalamin is not working for is it something related to MTHFR. Do i need any specific tests as it’s been 15 injections in a month of 500 mcg methylcobalamin with little improvements. I have checked for frolic acid, iron and potassium and all are in range. Is there any way to make hydroxocobalamin work as i see it’s more stable form recommended in this group.

Thanks in advance

If Hydroxocobalamin does not work for you , it may well have to do with MTHFR. I’m afraid I’m not knowledgeable on that subject . A member of this forum, @fbirder is a scientist, who has excellent knowledge on MTHFR. I would ask him if I were you .

Methylcobalamin is less stable than Hydroxocobalamin, but it’s fine if kept refrigerated. As far as I can remember , the Arnika Methylcobalamin ampoules are 1mg , But I can’t remember if they are in 1ml or 2ml solution .

You have to be patient when treating your deficiency . It’s not possible to say how long it might take . I think it takes longer if you have been deficient for a long time .But then it’s hard to say how long you have been deficient! There is a myriad of symptoms which are also symptoms of other conditions . And we all get a nice “pick and mix” selection !

Pernicious Anaemia is a “Cinderella” condition , which is much neglected by the medical profession . There is poor knowledge of it . It’s worth reading books by our Chairman , Martyn Hooper (available on Amazon ) He is publishing a new book shortly . All the very best to you .
