Any significance in consistently low neutrophils since last July?

Hi guys,

Been suffering with a whole list of weird symptoms since last July - breathing problems (24/7, worse on exertion), new digestive issues that include intolerance to gluten, wheat, dairy. Bloating, gas, blurry vision, tingling in hands, weak feeling in abdomen and around sides.. list goes on.

I've had everything you can think of checked - CTs, echos, x-rays, spirometry, numerous different bloods. Been tried on thyroxine, inhalers, steroids, testosterone injections, taken all kinds of supplements, been prescribed bloody prozac by my own - former - useless NHS GP and found no real relief.

So my questions is this: since the start of all of my issues, one thing has been consistent and that's my neutrophils have been low since my first blood test last August. My WBC has often been on the low side, but always in range too. Does this have any significance to any symptoms I've listed?

I know that low neutrophils indicates a recent infection but I haven't had an infection for a long time. I'm seeing a private GP who's adamant that I'm suffering symptoms of autoimmune disorders but he can't pin me down to any particular ones.

I even work with a group of research nurses, and the only response I got from one of those today on my latest results was that it's not too low so nothing to worry about.

Any advice or suggestions would be great.

Initial neutrophils results last August was: 1.69

x10^9/L (normal range 2-7.5)

WBC results from the same date: 4.1

x10^9/L (normal range 3-10)

Neutrophils today: 1.73

x10^9/L

WBC today: 3.8

x10^9/L

Thanks again

Hi Dave

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

While this is not directly linked to what you have said, and it is jargon central, take a close look at the table 1. I had low Lymphocytes, but there could have been many reasons for that and they started to improve prior to taking B12

I was actually more interested in RBC, which was low, and cell volume which was high, and getting worse test on test. Strangely all my doctors ignored this, even though in the UK it was out of range. Did explain what I was looking at to my Swiss dr, think I saw a light come on at that point. I think for the most part Drs only look at the headline numbers and don't really take the results together as a whole. (to make it easier, I put all of my results in a spreadsheet with the ranges, then showed a percentage of where in the range the result fell, anything below 25% or above 75% I was interested in to show a pattern)

Hope this is helpful

Bob
