Does anyone find alcohol has a different effect on them when injecting B12? Is it ok to drink it occasionally? Thank you

I drink it more than occasionally and it has no different an effect than before I injected. Thank the gods (my new Gin of the Month has just arrived - NAUD - YUM!).

I wondered that. I used to enjoy a glass of wine. Since I've been ill 1/10/18 not had a drop. Have hot ribena that ive not drunk for years. I know when I'm feeling better as I will fancy a glass of wine. Looking forward to that day.

I’d say I had a normal response to alcohol in the years before I had PA until the last year or 2 before diagnosis. At that point I would have a nauseous hangover lasting days after relatively few drinks. It was so bad that I more or less gave up alcohol.

Now that I’ve been si for a couple of years at a frequency that suits me (weekly) I can drink again but definitely not too often or to excess. By about half a bottle of wine it’s nausea and exhaustion the following day. So nowadays I limit myself to no more than once a week and not too much and I’m happy with that.

As to response to alcohol, I’ve always been a bit of a lightweight but now I feel tipsy before the end of one glass.

Hi Numbsew personally I have a tiny glass of fortified wine each afternoon and I've been having B12 injections for over 46 years and I'm still "clivealive" aged 77.

Everything in "moderation" is my watchword.

For me any alcohol gives me what can only be described as a four day hangover. It’s not worth it for me. I gave up alcohol entirely.

I've been drinking regularly before and after starting B12 injections and feel no different in terms in alcohol tolerance. To be honest, I don't drink much liquor or beer, but I can easily drink 2-3 glasses of wine with no ill effects. I believe it's a subjective decision, so determine your limits for yourself.

This question comes up quite often and the above answers are representative.

For lots of us, half a sniff and we fall over and pay heavily for that, while others get away with it.

I guess it shows how individual we all are and reinforces how we can only give our experiences to show the range of possibilities and encourage others to listen to their bodies and do what suits them best.

Not just alcohol , I found that I could not face a hot drink of any sort, actually went for about 3 years with no alcohol ,tea, coffee, hot choc ,or anything hot . Spent all the time on water and very week fruit juice. Pleased to say that after almost 2 years of SI I am at last starting to have the odd hot drink and 2 weeks ago managed a small G and T felt like all my Christmases rolled into one :)
