I've not found any change in my capacity for drinking alcohol. I do drink less nowadays, but that's nothing to do with PA.

"my doctors seem to know very little about b12 deficiency"

There should be some info in above link that you can pass on to your GPs. I'm in UK so some of the info may be less relevant if you're in another country but hopefully still of interest.

PAS website has a section for health professionals which your GP may find interesting.

It was like a four day hangover for me. I stopped alcohol altogether and haven’t looked back. Quite often I become the designated driver.

Alcohol doesn’t interact with B12 directly but instead it eliminates the other B vitamins that B12 needs to do it’s job.

I also have found that I can only drink very little. I can drink half a glass of wine and it takes me a long time to recover.

Alcohol wipes out b vitamins - as well as being high in sugars which do the same and effect mood. I haven’t drunk since my early twenties - immediately effects my ‘life energy’ so to speak. I occasionally have maybe half a beer or a tiny glass of Baileys. But any more is not worth it. I see it as very expensive and slightly toxic water.

I have twice weekly B12 injections and can now tolerate a couple of glasses of wine once a week. Any more than that makes me ridiculously hungover and tired for days.

If I go on holiday and have a glass a night for say, 5 days, it takes me 3 weeks to get back to feeling ok.

Before diagnosis and in the first year or so when I was receiving inadequate injections I more or less gave up alcohol as it made me feel so bad.

Maybe best avoiding alcohol for a while and when you’re feeling more like your old self try a glass or 2 to see whether or not you can tolerate it?

I was diagnosed about 5 years ago. 1st year on two monthly injections, next year or 2 on monthly, next year on weekly and for the last year on twice weekly. I’m pleased to say I feel generally fit and well on twice weekly.

Tha k you ..

I try to keep alcohol to 1-2 nights a week. Any more than that seems to work against me. I stick to one cocktail or 1-2 glasses of wine if I’m drinking.
