How to check Folate levels whilst S.I.?

Hi! I've started to S.I. after GP resistant to increase B12. Improved energy levels but still got numbness in fingers and toes, plus difficulty walking as leg muscles jammed. I did a short walk yesterday and can hardly stretch my lower legs today. :(

Awaiting tests from Endocronologist of Cortisol test (which side affects caused familiar fatigue, nausea and low mood). Have seen a nutritionist who recommended digestive enzymes and mitrocrondial support tablets. I have just started to take iron, but not sure what level of folic acid should be taken? Hmmm, think I am rambling all over the place, and there may have been recommendations before, so, if so, apologies.

400 mcg a day is what most people take. Some might take 5000 mcg a day but there is no evidence that, taken long-term, this will work any better than 400 mcg and some suspicions that it may be harmful.

I took 400mcg a day, but found that I still got hair loss, bleeding gums and splitting/ sore mouth, so now take double that. Occasionally get these symptoms still, but had had the sore and splitting mouth permanently for about 10 years or more before getting B12 deficiency diagnosis and low range ferritin and folate addressed.

Not necessary for everyone, so I'd start off with 400mcg - perhaps as part of a good multivitamin and mineral tablet ?

Keep a record of symptoms, whether attributable to B12/ folate/ferritin/none of these. You'd be surprised at some of the things that get better- including things you thought were just "you" !
