Heatwave b12 storage

I have methylcobalamin and I have stored it in a room rather than in the fridge. I am concerned with the heatwave over the last few months. I am concerned that the methylcobalamin will be unstable because generally the temperatures have been above 25 and around 28 at times. Has anyone else been given instructions on when to refrigerate?

Not sure Jade, but it has been very hot, phone a pharmacist to be sure. I just keep mine in a cool cupboard x

Thank you very much for your reply. It says between 15-25c on the packaging so I can't refrigerate. And the whole house was above 25c more like 28c

I was wondering if it would be useless or if it would be less potent.

Methylcobalamin for injection is quite unstable and needs to be kept refrigerated all the time. Most manufacturers will include an information leaflet like this empowerpharmacy.com/drugs/m...

Which says that it needs to be stored below 5°C

Some suppliers remove those instructions and tell their users that it’s OK to store it at room temperature. They lie.

The good news is that it’s probbaly gone off to hydroxocobalamin. efsa.europa.eu/sites/defaul...

So it will be just as, if not more, effective than the methylcobalamin.

So, if you’re buying methylcobalamin (or obtaining it from a charity) and they don’t tell you to store it below 5° C then you’re probably better off getting hydroxocobalamin.

It has to be stored above 15c

That is quite a strong contradiction of fbirder's referenced reply.

Are you able to supply any documentary references to support that claim?

Yes I can give you photographic evidence of this information from on the packaging however it doesn't seem to let me post this.

Is the packaging on the internet anywhere?

You can only add one image per thread - on the original post.

Email arnika I'm sure they will verify.

There are several sites with "arnika" in their name - none jump out as the right one. Which do you mean?

If you’re talking about the stuff from Intravita then they are one of the ones who claim it doesn’t need refrigerating.

They are wrong.

Their methylcobalamin doesn’t need refrigerating because it is not for treating any medical condition. That’s what their Director says.
