Hi Pascha1 I'm not knowledgeable about this but I think your best bet is to ask for hydroxocobamalin 1mg injections.

There is an alternative in cyanocobamalin 1mg (which I have been on since 1972) but I believe this may soon become unavailable due to the NHS withdrawing it from being a prescribed medication. I'm not sure whether this will still be available privately.

Personally I have taken 1 – Folic Acid 400μg tablet every day for more years than I can remember as a "maintenance dose". This can be bought cheaply over the counter at any supermarket or pharmacy and it is also fortified into many breakfast cereals. You can also source Folate by eating plenty of green vegetables. I guess this would be cheaper than injecting it.

I wish you well

presume you mean MTHFR - would be very rare that would impact significantly on the efficiency with which you use B12 - which is controlled by a large number of other genes

It is uncommon for folate to be given specifically by injection - if you have an absorption problem it isn't as affected as B12 is so you can still absorb through your stomach - just that you may need higher doses for your cells to do what they need to do.

I take omneprozale I have 3 x neurological problems I have Hypothyroid , having low folate can have something to do with B12 if it’s not level or something, I have many symptoms , I want to pay for them I just need the name of the b12 I have to ask for, I’ve got to go now so god knows what they will palm me off with ;(

Taking omeprazole will affect your ability to absorb B12 via sublinguals hence you will probably need injections for life.

Most people have a MTHFR mutation, only in a small number does it cause a problem. In those people taking methylfolate (available from Amazon) can fix the problems. Everybody else can use folic acid, available from most supermarkets.
