Hydroxocalamine Schedule

I had asked my doctor before if my schedule could be moved up to 10 weeks from 12 as the last 3 weeks before an injection are dismal. Request denied as my iron level was ok. I've just had a blood test prior to my latest injection and apparently the results are normal. I find this very confusing as prior to the injection I am dog tired yet can't sleep, no appetite and can't concentrate on anything. Since the injection 6 days ago things have not improved noticeably, in fact I would say things are getting worse. I am exhausted and have trouble with memory to the point of forgetting the word I was to say mid sentence. Everything just comes out muddled and adds to my confusion and lack of confidence. Any advice?

Once injections start tests for B12 are useless . You will get a high reading . But this doesn’t mean that the B12 is getting to your cells . It sounds as though you need more injections . If you cannot persuade your doctor to give you them , you’d best come back here to hear how you can self -inject . It is very cheap !

Also don’t forget that you need good quantities of folate/folic acid eg green leafy vegetables or supplememt folic acid 400 mcg, as it works with B12 .

The fact that your iron levels are Ok has nothing to do with how often you need B12, and there is no point your blood B12 being checked, as it will probably be sky high because of the supplements anyway, and not showing a true level of how much your system is able to access.

The pinned info on here is so useful. It might be an idea to print some of it out for your GP's information. Treatment should be about symptoms, not levels.

On the other hand, you may want to think about taking your health into your own hands, and self-injecting. Then you can choose your own schedule to suit what your body needs.

Thank you wedgewood and spacey1 for your replies. After reading previous posts I think I will be treating myself in future as this will probably cut down on the confusion. From my own experience with local doctors I can state that their knowledge is limited and sadly lacking
