Hello!

I live in the netherlands and have a question. For about four years i have pain in both Feet and Burning sensations most in My legs. IT starter after My labour. I have been on b12 injections now because they think iT is worth trying. Not because My levels were that low. I get more pins and needles in My Feet. Is this a good sign? I am very insecure about iT because iT is feeling worse. Sorry for My bad english ;/)

Hi,

There is a Dutch B12 website with some interesting articles.

stichtingb12tekort.nl/

There are also B12 cafe meetings in Netherlands.

" IT starter after My labour"

Did you have "gas and air mix" (gas en lucht) during labour? Gas and air mix is used to relieve pain in labour and it contains Nitrous Oxide. Nitrous oxide can inactivate the B12 in a person's body.

UK B12 websites

Based in Wales, UK but has members from around the world.

PAS offers support and info about PA.

"What You Need to Know About Pernicious Anaemia and B12 Deficiency" by Martyn Hooper

Martyn Hooper is the chair of PAS (Pernicious Anaemia Society). Book is up to date with UK b12 guidelines.

"Living with Pernicious Anaemia and Vitamin B12 Deficiency" by Martyn Hooper

Has several case studies.

"Could it Be B12?: An Epidemic of Misdiagnoses" by Sally Pacholok and JJ. Stuart (USA authors)

Very comprehensive with lots of case studies. There is a Dutch translation of this book available.

Hi. I have these feelings you describe often. Until I came across this forum I used to worry a lot about it but I realised I'm not alone now. I've upped my b12 injections and I've started to feel I'm improving. Good luck the websites references are really informative x

your English is fine - and certainly a lot better than my (non-existent) dutch. If you have just started treatment then it is quite common for things to feel a bit worse before they start to get better. One of the effects of lack of B12 is that nerve signals get weaker - so you get B12 and the signals get stronger but the brain takes a while to adjust - I think of it as being like listening to a weak FM/AM/SW radio signal - you turn the set right up so you can hear it and then the signal comes through stonger and it is deafening, until you manage to reset the volume.

Serum B12 is the normal test for diagnosing B12 deficiency but it isn't very sensitive and misses 25% of people who are B12 deficient if it is used as a single marker so symptoms become important.

you can find a full list of symptoms here - worth ticking of all that apply - even if they have been a round for a lot longer - a full B12 deficiency can take years and even decades to manifest - and follow what changes over time

I’ve had terrible pain in my feet in the past but generally much better now. I used to say it felt like I was walking on my bones. Lots of B12 and a healthy diet has helped. Find avoiding wheat helped and I am pretty sure when I drink alcohol it gets worse.
